Happy Valentine's Day!

But tonight, the iconic diner is putting on its fancy pants to serve couples at three area Waffle House locations — one each in Gulf Breeze, Pace and Pensacola. The chain has offered the Valentine's Candlelight Dinner at select locations for five years.

Today, Waffle House managers and matchmakers are throwing red tablecloths over the Formica countertops. They're lighting the candles tableside and lowering the lights real sexy-like. Bert's chili sexy.

"Couples have been coming in here every day for years," said Steve Jackson, manager of the Waffle House on Woodbine Road in Pace. "Our customers know they can come here for a good meal, so why not on Valentine's Day?"

Prayer bill goes to Gov. Scott

TALLAHASSEE — A bill allowing school boards to permit student-initiated prayer and other "inspirational messages" at public school assemblies went to Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday after heated debate in the Florida House.

Supporters argued that returning organized prayer would help cure some the ills that have been plaguing public schools since it was banned by the U.S. Supreme Court. Opponents said the bill would violate the constitutional principle of church-state separation.

"Before inspirational messages were removed from our schools the number one problem was talking out of turn," said Rep. Charles Van Zant. "Today it is drug abuse. Before, the number two problem was chewing gum. Now it is alcohol abuse."

I made the mistake of watching the local news this week and within 5 minutes heard two local gems. Can't believe I'm raising a son in a city with Tampa chicks.

[h=3]Deputies: Woman abandoned children for Busch Gardens [/h]SPRING HILL A 9-year-old boy thought his mother was at work.
He was left at home Wednesday afternoon to take care of his 4-year-old brother and the family dog. The house phone was dead, authorities said.
Deputies said they tried for hours to get a hold of his mother. By 10 p.m., they arrested her on two charges of child neglect.
Erica Anne Sell told deputies she had lied to her oldest son. She went to Busch Gardens with her boyfriend, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
The 28-year-old mother had been making a habit of leaving her children at home alone, deputies said.
During her interview, she told Deputy Gisele Mulverhill she would work four days out of the week and leave her children alone in the house for at least six hours at a time, according to a sheriff's report.
Sell works at a Progressive Insurance call center, deputies said.
Mulverhill said Sell's children would come home from school around 3 p.m. and she wouldn't get home from work until 9 p.m.
The practice had been going on for more than a month, deputies said.
Sell didn't keep the house tidy or safe, according to an arrest affidavit.
Mulverhill said there was standing water on the bathroom floor and animal feces on the floor of one of the bedrooms. The younger boy was running around the house barefoot, she wrote.
While Mulverhill stayed with the children, she saw the older boy use the blender. He told her he had used it several times in the past, according to her report.
A power strip was plugged into an outlet and it was covered by a towel, which could have caused a fire, Mulverhill stated.
There was only one phone in the house and it wasn't working when Mulverhill responded to the house earlier that night. One of the children told her it needed to be charged for at least three hours before it could be used, according to the sheriff's office.
By 9:15 p.m., after the phone was charged, Sell called the house unaware there was law enforcement there, Mulverhill stated.
Sell came home and was interviewed. Mulverhill said Sell told her she wasn't at work like she had told her son, but she had been at Busch Gardens with her boyfriend.

[h=3]Deputies need help identifying Tampa theft suspect[/h]Hillsborough County deputies are asking for the public's help to identify a suspect in the theft of a television and other items from a hotel under renovation in Tampa.
At 10:17 a.m. March 21, a woman was seen at the Sabal Suites, 10007 Princess Palm Ave., checking several doors before entering a room being renovated. Surveillance video showed she made several trips out of the room, taking a TV, the bedspread, picture frames, an iron and ironing board, rugs, a trash can and curtains, the sheriff's office said.
The woman is described as a white female, 22 to 29 years old, about 125 pounds and 5 foot 7 inches tall. She has a medium complexion and long brown hair in a ponytail. At the time, she was wearing a blue tank top and blue shorts, according to the sheriff's office.
The value of the stolen items is estimated to be more than $700.
