Retired US Soccer / World Cup Thread (RIP)

Sunil was a guest speaker in my class today. Really engaging guy, and didn't really address the current US Soccer situation (the class was about corruption in sports), but definitely got the impression that he thinks he wasn't/isn't part of the problems at FIFA. He did say that US Soccer is considering ways to pay the president to hopefully open up the candidate pool, though not necessarily for this election.

He's three times as complicit as anyone else in CONCACAF, just smarter in his trail.

After reading Reyna's comments last night I thought "shit, that's the guy we ought to have in charge". Dunno if he's ready for that kind of role (certainly every bit as qualified as Landon, if he's really gonna throw his hat in the ring), but he's always been a thoughtful guy, talented but also smart tactically. And his view of American soccer is, honestly, the no BS look we need as to what has to change. Similar to what some of you were saying about why you wanted Klinsmann.

Seems like Reyna may be a good choice for Technical Director. Similar role to what he is doing at NYCFC. He could keep the program moving in the direction that Jurgen started it.

Get him on board with a foreign coach who brings new ideas and fresh set of eyes to the selection process (Bielsa!) and we're in business.

Soooo, didn't Gulati just say the Federation would take its time to hire a coach. A day later, we are set to announce the hire this weekend. The asylum is running the hospital.

Edit: Missed the "interim" tag in the ESPN tweet.

Yeah, we've got a game against Portugal in a few weeks. Might need a coach of some sort.

It's weird though, considering it appears to have to be someone on payroll. Tab doesn't want it, Hackworth is at the WC, so it seems it will be someone from Arena's staff. So much for a clean break.
