Retired US Soccer / World Cup Thread (RIP)

Well that's a kick in the balls. Didn't get to watch -- what happened?

We let Italy dominate possession. Horvath played well in goal and kept the match 0-0 until Italy scored one right at the end. We struggled to possess, few guys had a few nice moments here and there. But otherwise, it was yet another game that was tough to watch, start to finish.

US U-20s with a pretty dominating performance in the final, 2-0 win over Mexico. Alex Mendez with both US strikes, though we had a number of other chances and weren't threatened too often. Be interesting to see how his career progresses at Freiburg. The goals:

GOALKEEPERS (3): Marcus Hahnemann (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Tim Howard (Everton), David Yelldell (MSV Duisburg)
DEFENDERS (9): Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Etienne), Jonathan Bornstein (UANL Tigres), Timothy Chandler (FC Nürnberg), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jay DeMerit (Vancouver Whitecaps), Oguchi Onyewu (FC Twente), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United), Zak Whitbread (Norwich City)
MIDFIELDERS (9): Michael Bradley (Aston Villa), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Mikkel Diskeruud (Stabaek), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Benny Feilhaber (AGF Aarhus), Stuart Holden (Bolton Wanderers), Jermaine Jones (Blackburn Rovers), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht)
FORWARDS (3): Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), Jozy Altidore (Bursaspor), Edson Buddle (FC Ingolstadt)

In USMNT news, sounds like Zach Steffen to ManCity (where he will never see the pitch and be loaned out to someplace he hopefully plays) is done, and Josh Sargent has been called up to the senior team for Werder Bremen this weekend.

I was surprised to see Haji Wright starting and playing for Schalke last weekend up top, though his impact on the match was limited, at best.

Sargent makes the 18 for Bremen today vs Dusseldorf. 1-1 going into the half. Hopefully he'll see the field later this afternoon.

Sargent scores 86 seconds after he enters the game to make it 3-1 Bremen. Fastest debut goal in club history.

TBF it was an incredibly easy tap in header from a yard out. Much harder to miss, than make. But who cares. Perfect debut for the lad.

Wondo showed us that anything is possible with a tap in, so good for Sargent
