So, he took a spot from another deserving player only to leave, what a prick. Are we even sure it was for the birth of his first child, it was probably to get his drunk on and hook up with one of his tour girlfriends. The Euros have more talent, more will, and more character than "our" team of pampered, whiny bitches. I predict a Euro blow-out and the only drama on Singles Sunday will be how big the final margin of victory will be for the Euros.
One thing the US team has going for it: None of our members are suing each other!

The most experienced player on Tom Watson's U.S. team was asked whether part of the Americans' struggles in the matches of late was due to players not being as close as their rivals. Instead of biting his tongue, Mickelson took a sarcastic bite out of the European team.
"Well, not only are we able to play together, we also don't litigate against each other," Mickelson said, "and that's a real plus, I feel, heading into this week."
Lefty was referencing the legal issues playing out between Rory McIlroy and his former management company, Horizon Sports, in which McIlroy alleges that McDowell received more favorable contract terms from Horizon.
Mickelson's quip drew laughter and a few wry smiles from the press in attendance. Moderator Michael Gibbons even offered a playful "ouch" in response.
"I couldn't resist," Mickelson said. "Sorry."
And suddenly, it's starting to feel like a Ryder Cup.
On this note, Phil weighs in. Atta boy, Phil:

5) More contented citizenry, coming from...
6) More socialism & less greedy capitalism
The European players, to a great extent, are a measure of some of these differences, in my opinion. They just seem like much nicer guys, for the most part, that are reflective of a more laid-back, less money-driven society. I'm sure that most of them make less money & pay higher tax rates than Phil Mickelson, for example....and don't bitch about it half as much as he does.
Oh yeah, "atta boy, Phil" you gambling, insider trading, adultering role model for greedy capitalist you!
Waving the flag went out the window for me back in 2002 when the Bush/Cheney NeoCons cynically used waving the flag and "patriotism" as an excuse to start a totally unnecessary 10-year, $3 trillion, 40,000 US casualty war in Iraq.
And yes, I do wish this country was more like Europe....in many ways. Here are a few things I like better about Europe:
1) Less infatuation & obsession with violence & guns.
2) Less income inequality
3) Fewer fundamentalist religious fanatics
4) More appreciation of tradition & history
5) More contented citizenry, coming from...
6) More socialism & less greedy capitalism

In reading about The Golf Channel's Alternate Shot coverage on Friday & Saturday, I saw that Arnie was #1 in Ryder Cup matches won by an American. #2 is Lanny Wadkins. Very cool to be Deacons in the top 2 spots.
