I saw this on TOB and found it quite shocking assuming that this is true and Wellman is responsible. It was posted by Legaldeac85.
Does anyone realize who the Deacs now have minding the cash drawer? I found out last week that Randy Casstevens, the infamous, former “Chief Bookcooker” of Krispy Kreme, has resurfaced and somehow slithered his way into another high profile job as the CFO of Wake Athletics. As we can all so vividly recall, just a few short years ago, Casstevens, and two other execs, illegally manipulated the stock price at KKD by cooking the books and cashing in millions of dollars of their personal shares while the price was at its peak and didn’t look back as the stock price deflated and the rest of us lost our butts. After a five year investigation by the SEC, these three crooks were fined about $750,000 and Casstevens had to surrender his CPA license which had still not been reinstated at the time of his hiring. Casstevens has shown no signs of remorse nor has he ever apologized publicly. How could the administration at Wake possibly justify hiring this guy and trusting him to make sound financial decisions? This is a department supposedly based on integrity and honesty. Did they check his background or criminal record? Did they know about the 5 year SEC investigation and its’ findings? Or did they sweep it all under the rug and give him a second chance for being a major donor and Wake guy? Whatever the reason, this has to be one of their worst hires ever, especially as the Deacon Club is pushing hard for donations to offset poor ticket sales. These are the types of hiring practices can certainly lead to NCAA investigations, the last thing this program needs. As a fairly significant donor for the past 25 years, I’m done, until he’s gone or someone can truly rationalize his hiring. This is the final straw. This guy definitely does not deserve to be in this position for what he’s done to the local economy, not to mention many of ours retirement accounts. He certainly doesn’t need the money and his integrity is questionable at best. He deserves to be serving time with the other financial crooks of the past decade for his ill gotten gains. It’s just another bad hire and more fuel for the fire.
