2015 Football Coaching Carousel: Southern Miss HC to Tampa Bay

Not surprising Herman turned South Carolina down. There are much better jobs open or about to open this year if he wants them. One of the rumors says that he may stay put at Houston this year thinking that he would be in better position for the Texas job for next season.

Got a link for that? Chad suffering through a bad year at SMU. He has no shot unless Herman or Smart fall through.

Morris is about as overrated as they come. I would love to see South Carolina hire him, but I think they can do better. The current condition of their program might scare a few good names away, though.

How does Houston keep hiring such great coaches?

The recruiting grounds, oil money and academic standards make it a very attractive place for an up and coming coach to make his name so they always have very good candidates beating down their door when they have an opening. By all rights it should be a P5 school and probably would be if the Big XII didn't have so many Texas schools already.

Eh....

Briles built it up, and he's a great coach, but also a huge dirtbag. Sumlin seems more like smoke and mirrors, using Briles's recruits to hide the fact that he's average. Herman, I think will be a very good coach, especially if he stays in, or around, Texas.

not only do we have a recruiting puddle but also a donation puddle

It would be bigger if Wellman didn't splash around and treat it like his swimming pool.

"All positive momentum for South Carolina’s pursuit of Houston head coach Tom Herman has stalled and a national report from Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports says that he has removed his name from consideration for the position.

In another Yahoo Sports report, Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is the supposed new frontrunner for the South Carolina job.

Immediate feedback from the Herman camp to South Carolina on Tuesday night was that of displeasure, but Herman didn’t immediately remove his name from consideration for the job.

According to Pat Forde on Wednesday morning, Herman has backed out of consideration. We are working to confirm from South Carolina’s end that Herman has removed his name from consideration

Smart has always been a candidate high on athletics director Ray Tanner’s list of candidates and, with Herman reportedly pulling out of contention, he is very likely the frontrunner for South Carolina’s head coaching position that was vacated when former head coach Steve Spurrier resigned"

Sounds like they pissed him off by somebody jumping the gun & reporting it before his season was over.

Yeah it's pretty damn early. Houston still could easily play their way into a New Year's Eve/Day bowl and they have a huge game Friday.

A consequence of all these early coaching moves

Sounds like South Carolina is about to be told no more times than Sheldon Williams. Maybe they need to offer more radio presents.

The coach before Herman, Tony Levine, was pretty bad.

The reason for Briles' and Sumlin's success has a lot to do with the fact they stayed in state when they moved from Houston so they hit the ground running recruiting-wise once they got to their new gig. Charlie Strong was from out of state so he's had a much harder time.

For that reason, Tom Herman would be an idiot not to take the LSU job if it comes open.

Sources apparently broke it too soon [like next week after the regular season ended like it should be done], they would not have pissed off Herman. But dummies in the press always want to break it early and be the first ones to have it and it cost them apparently.

Or he realized that South Carolina is a shithole school and he didn't want to live in God-forsaken Columbia.

I've always found this to be a really dumb excuse when someone says no.

Yeah, it's pretty silly. No coach is going to turn down several million more dollars per year over something like that. Unfortunately for South Carolina, the dude's stock blew up and elevated him past their level of program.

UCF: Brandon Helwig who does an excellent job covering UCF for UCFSports.com reports tonight that the four coaches Danny White intends to interview for the position are the same four we wrote about Tuesday: Dino Babers, Geoff Collins, Randy Shannon & Gene Chizik.

TheReff is just trying to cover his ass for posting that it was all but done.
