DirecTV NFL Ticket - might be worth a phone call...

A few options for a 2nd TV (assuming it's HD) :

1) All outputs are active on HD DVR's, so you can run an HDMI cable to one TV and some component outs to another TV and watch HD on two tv's. Of course, both TV's will be watching the same thing.

2) You can get another basic HD box (non DVR) and pay like $5/mo to enable whole-house DVR. Then you can see whatever is in your DVR on that basic box as well, plus you can watch normal tv of course. But you need to run cable to it from the sat dish, so do that during your free install.

3) You can connect an HTPC to your tv and use DirecTV2PC (free), which shows you everything in your DVR as well. You can't see a guide to channel surf life tv, but you can do something like setting a program to record via your smartphone and immediately start watching it on your computer.

Good advice. We'll see about the second option. I hope I can convince the guy to run another line, even though I didn't order the second box yet.

thats how i am to play it as well, just say that you will probably get another box added but just want the cable put in now. what day is your install?

So I am getting ready to move and was looking for advice on DirecTV vs. Dish vs. TWC (Uverse is not an option in my area yet). This thread came up after a quick search and though I would resurrect it.

From what I've looked at online I think I like DTV the best...about the same price as Dish but with Sunday Ticket and Dish sounds like it may drop AMC soon which is a deal breaker.

I am hesitant about the 2 year contract and not sure if I like the idea of having a satellite dish. We've always had cable and usually had good luck with them adding on promotions to reduce our price. Also, it looks like ATT U-verse should be available within the next year (they currently offer internet but not TV) and with TWC I could cancel and pick up U-verse.

So, I come to The Pit for advice on this difficult life decision.

ETA: I didn't realize this was in the sports thread, is it possible to have it moved to The Pit?

I just moved called directv to make the move and they gave me Sunday ticket free

I'm pretty close to moving to DTV. I've called TWC three times about my bill spiraling out of control and they don't want to play ball. Time to make the move. Anyone want to offer up their account number for a referral?

They are a pain to deal with but you can always work them and get some credits. It just requires a couple long phone calls with each issue that comes up.

My contract with Dish is up in 3 months and I'm thinking of switching back to Directv. Wonder what kind of deal they can throw my way.

Stay with Dish. The Hopper is worth it. Plus it is about 15% cheaper overall that what I have ever gotten with Direct TV and better picture quality.

Check you pm I sent you a pm with my account #

HAHA...oh man, my inbox was bombarded. I'll have to look and see who got me first, I guess. I'll let whoever I use know that I used their number.

Also, thanks DV7 for the pos rep bribery.

Ha figured that much

Ordered DirecTV last night and cancelled TWC today. TWC made less than zero effort to keep me as a customer. Good fucking riddance.

I had downgraded my service with Direct TV 2-3 months ago. We had the "everything package" so we were quit spoiled. We got rid of all movie channels and the sports packages (channels 600+). I thought we would really miss it but we didn't.
Just got a call today. They are adding all movie channels for $1 / month for the next 3 months (after which time I have to call and cancel) + they are giving me the NFL Sunday Ticket for the entire year. It is set up to renew next year so the lady told me I can cancel the 2014 season when I call in Nov to cancel the movie channels and I'll still have the NFL Sunday Ticket the rest of this season.
I suggest you answer your phone if you see it is from Direct TV.

I've been calling Directv every 6 months for the past year and a half to ask for deals to lower my bill. This morning I only got an offer to waive the $10 HD DVR access for 6 months. I've had better success before, so has anyone ever had any luck calling back later in the same day or next day and receiving a better deal than what was previously offered? I even tossed in the whole "thinking about cancelling" thing and didn't get a response.

Cancel just one aspect of your plan and the calls will come rolling in. We cancelled HBO a few months back and they called us everyday for about 2 weeks offering us all kinds of special deals.

Same thing here... until we called to actually turn in their equipment. We gave them a "we're thinking about cancelling call," and a "we have this bundle offer from DirectTV - will you match it?" call. Nothing substantial from them. Then we call to return their equipment after the DirectTV installation is complete, and now they want to negotiate. Had the pleasure of laughing in their faces. We get many more 1080 channels through DirectTV (720p from TWC) and the picture is much better. Enjoyed having Sunday Ticket for free this season. Never going back to TWC - same sentiments as Deadbolt. Anyone thinking about jumping, should.

Typically the reason you get offers when you cancel is because you end up with a CSR.

If you call and say add programming or change programming, you get a sales person. They don't have access to give you the really good deals. If you call with a problem and then have them take programming off, you're talking to a support person.

Just call and say cancel, cancel, cancel at every prompt and you'll get someone who's job is based on retaining you as a customer. They have far more power to give you stuff.
