Ari Stewart ineligible to play for USC

If Gary & Jeff had been playing for Bob Knight they would have been in their goddamned room at 2 AM and none of this would have ever happened. They used terrible judgment and nationally embarrassed the University as a result of that terrible judgment.

I guess that I just got spoiled by following a completely clean program for 25 years.....and one that also won 3 NCAA Championships & 11 Conference Championships at the same time. It can be done.

Bob Knight coached a monastery basketball team?

Otherwise, how do you know that his players never did anything wrong? How do you know his AD didn't provide cover and clean-up services for "little problems"?

You don't.

Maybe the focus of the culture change revolution should have been directed toward the pep band ... out of town representing Wake and all.

See how silly that sounds?

+1, BabyDeac

Sad to say, I think Sutton's dad is full of it. Calling those kids criminal is a stretch at best. And PhD makes a valid point about the time line. Not to mention, Skip recruited some of those kids, he died, and Dino had to try to pick up the pieces. I happen to think he did his best. He had a lot less time to build his own program than our current testament to failure has had.

I have known Ben Sr since he was an attorney in Murfreesboro NC years ago. Fine fellow. Liked his wife Valerie very much. But he is not the best source you could get on this matter, and definitely not one without bias.

At 2 AM while on a trip representing the University? As I said, it wasn't like they were at a campus frat party. Morals evidently have gone straight to hell at WF these days. (And I always thought that DDA was one of those moral, religious guys. Must have him mixed up with someone else.)

Ever get a BJ at 2 am? Way better than any other time of day.

I'm not saying he's a bad fellow. I have good friends who are of the same mindset and are substantial donors. This is exactly why Wellman is in no danger of losing his job and we are stuck with Bzz until Wellman says otherwise. It's maddening but just the way it is.

BKF- Have you noticed how the PJ Hairston situation at UNC has sort of quietly slipped away...remember how some pretty serious charges against him were dropped? Thats only because Roy is a god in Cheater Hill and the AD loves his sociopathic ass.

Now- say the UNC AD wanted to get rid of Roy. PJ's charges would still be pending, the media would have been all over it (and probably reported other player transgressions) and the UNC AD would have spoke out about the program needing a culture change.

Thats how this type of thing works.

And I know you LOVE Bob Knight, but to say he had a 100% clean program-especially when you're talking about 18-22 yo's- is very simplistic.

Using knight as a model of proper judgement is comical.

If you thought our program was completely clean for 25 years prior to Dino then your head has been DEEP in the sand my friend.

On Dec 6 1980 Wake Forest drubbed North Carolina 82-71 in the Greensboro Coliseum to win the final Big Four championship in Helms' junior season. The Deacons had beat Carolina badly. there was a spirited party among Helms' friends back at wake Forest. One of them introduced Helms to cocaine for the first time.
Helms said that he had used marijuana and alcohol since his senior year at Bassett High School

This happened on your boy Tacy's watch. Do you think Staak, Odom, & Prosser did things better than Tacy? I personally smoked weed with athletes (including basketball players) during my time @ WF.

bkf - people are upset because Wellman has insisted that [Redacted] is the solution. People are not upset that Wake Forest requires student-athletes to go to class. I don't know why that keeps needing to be repeated.

Furthermore, Wellman has not been very honest about the culture issue, the circumstances under which he hired Jeff [Redacted], or in his defense of the Buzz hire. Consequently, there is no reason for anyone to trust him, and I don't know why you apparently do. Let's be clear here, Wellman's credibility with the vast majority of the fan base is gone, and it aint coming back. It's one thing for 18-22 year-olds to misbehave. It's something completely different when an athletic director in his 60s, who is being paid over a million dollars per year, presides over the general decline of Wake sports, allienates much of the fan base, dissembles to his fans regularly, turns Wake sports into a national punch line, and micromanages the basketball program into historic contemptability.

So if they could have just kept it covered up, it would have been OK to have 7 or 8 players doing this stuff? Damn, the morals of some WF people have taken a hit these days. It was happening while Dino was here....and someone knew about it, because that's why he was fired...no matter what was said publically.

Considering everything that was going on, maybe we should have hired Jerry Tarkanian instead of [Redacted].

don't know, don't care, that horse is beyond dead. Point is that you were lying. You going to tell me that you didn't vote for Nixon because of Watergate? It's revisionist horse shit.

What is simplistic...and sad...is that you seem unable to make the differentiation between what is acceptable when a person is at a party on his own and when he is on a trip as an official representative of the University. I could care less how many BJs the players get when they are not acting in the capacity of officially representing the University, but players should have the character to act responsibly when they are representing the University, so as to avoid the disastrous national publicity that WF received from their careless & reckless behavior in Miami.

I bet you can't find 50 non-Wake fans who know anything about what happened in Miami.

"disastrous national publicity" would be your head basketball coach verbally and physically abusing his players at practice. Or maybe your head basketball coach having a tantrum and throwing a chair across the court during a game. THAT is bad publicity.

It's good that everyone is quoting bkf's posts because they'll likely all be deleted later tonight.

Are you saying it is completely inappropriate for players on a road trip to get blown?

Nobody that is not on the boards knows about Gary Clark getting a blowjob that night.

national embarrassment? Hahahahaha. No.

You are being simplistic. Of course there have been random situations.....but not a team-wide epidemic like this. How about giving us some documented examples of anything that remotely compares to the size & scope of this.

And anyway, what you or I...or anyone else on this board...thinks really doesn't matter. When Ben Sutton's dad strikes up a conversation at a Costco and says point-blank that Dino was playing a bunch of criminals....that's the kind of opinion that matters.

Having sex is something most college age kids have been doing forever, even at Wake Forest. If you think otherwise, you are only fooling yourself.

Not one person I personally know even have about the BJ gate. Half of them have even forgotten about the pounding we took via Cleveland State.

Yes because no other player in the history of the NCAA has ever given in to his 19-year-old hormones and received fellatio from a willing female.

What is sad is how you tied this to my morals/faith. As if I'm the arbiter of all 19 year old's impulses. That would make me a hypocrite, because I was 19 once, ad get it. What is more sad is how literally YOU (and the old guard) are painting this as careless and reckless. The TODAY fiasco has been proven to be nothing more than a smokescreen and a girl vying for attention.
