Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

I think today is the day. No inside information about it, just think today is the day.

Let's land ourselves a big Shaka fish.

High optimism regarding the new Coach if an announcement is made this week. That optimism will turn to skepticism if no new Coach is named by the weekend.

Since there isn't much to talk about yet, what makes you all think we will hear something today? (Just to get some more good vibes out there)

If there is one thing that Wellman (and WFU as a whole) does well, it's restrict access to information. Especially during a coach search.

The silence from all (hopeful) parties. Shaka camp has been dead silent either because there is talk or they don't feel like they need to say anything because every year he will be targeted. The flight info was interesting. It's stupid but Howland has been silent too, the twitter change is odd timing.

God I sound like a 9/11 Truther.

I sure hope we hear something today - my productivity yesterday was maybe 20% and not looking much better today...

Depends on what Dayton does tonight for me - if they win and there's no announcement tomorrow I think that it becomes clear that Archie Miller is RW's #1 target.

I don't see how anyone can draw a conclusion other than Shaka has been thinking about our offer.

Wellman initially stated that the search could take several weeks because many of our targets were playing in post-season tournaments. All of our top targets lost before the first weekend was over so Wake no longer had to wait to be able to start interviewing candidates. The past 3 days could legitimately be enough time to interview and negotiate with several of our top candidates. It would also be good for Wake to announce the hire soon to get positive air time during the NCAA tournament games this weekend. Wake also knows that although we may be one of the most attractive destinations now that it could change as more Coaches are terminated and as the Coaching carousel heats up so it is better to act sooner and close on our new Coach than to draw this out. This also all seems reasonable based on the timing it took to complete the Clawson hire where Wellman had to wait for Clawson to finish coaching in the MAAC championship and then move in and interview and close the deal.

Agreed. The fact that his season ended a week ago, there have been rampant rumors, and his camp has not said a word, that speaks volumes - way more than Howland changing his Twitter profile. Howland is unemployed and seeking a job in a field where relating to teenagers is paramount, and his Twitter account was outdated by two years - it stands to reason that someone finally told him, dude, if you want one of these jobs, you need to get UCLA out of your Twitter profile first to even be considered.

I do deals for a living and have for over 20 years. The first rule of a deal, ANY deal, is that time is always the enemy of the deal getting done. All sorts of things can intervene and keep the deal from happening. So the longer this takes, the harder it has been. Now whether we've been able to get to the table with our top targets I think remains a fair question. And we could always still end up with whomever the No. 1 target is. But the longer it takes to get an announcement, the lower the odds it will be with one of our top targets.

Yeah I am sure Wellman has been talking to Shaka and Shaka only!

He who shall not be named hasn't been silent...do we think he's out of the search?

I can see it now:

Presser announced, Wellman steps out.....

"After an extensive search, we've decided that we needed to look no further than the previous staff to find our new head coach....I present to you.....Mr. Jeffrey [Redacted]."

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
