Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

As none of us know the specifics, I would strongly wager that money was not the deciding factor for Shaka.

I don't have an answer for that. I could spew all the same reasons everyone else has laid out, but you already know them. That isn't really the point. My point was that if we have 3M we should seemingly be able to get Howland, Miller, Mack, etc...Comparing our hiring history shouldn't be an indicator because we were told that money was no object and that we were swinging for the fences presumably to undo the destruction of the last four years. This was not supposed to be a stepping stone hire. I don't think Manning is terrible, but he's not great. We've been set up to expect great. If RW fails to deliver, once again, it's on him.

Do you want to talk about great? This is a man that grew up in our own back yard, and through hard work and perserverence has been the definition of success his entire life. This is a man that has lead impressionable young men into battle and they emerged champions. This is a man who worked hard to become the premiere talent of his age, ultimately becoming the very first pick in the NBA draft subsequent to his championship run. This is a man who spent 15 years at the pinnacle of his profession, earning such accolades as sixth man of the year and twice, an NBA all-star. This is a man who has been around basketball his entire life and partially through his guidance, was a part of a championship squad that won a national title just seven years in a row. This is a man, who after facing adversity, lead a very young team to an 11 game winning streak and a conference title and NCAA tournament birth in just his second year.

That is the man that I am proud to introduce to you today and bring back home, the new head coach at Wake Forest University, Mister Daniel Manning.

Been at work all day just now checking in. Anything note worthy happen today or same stuff as last night?

If we offered and Shaka thought about it and said thanks but no thanks, it isn't LOWF, but reality.

Holding one's breath and stamping one's feet isn't going to change it either.

Why would I trust anything from WXII? During the Wellman press conference firing Bzz they bombarded me with shitty commercials telling me that they were committed to not wasting my time whilst they were in the process of actually wasting my time. FUCK WXII

LOWF is alive and growing.

Dude, seriously; not everyone in the world wants to come to Winston-Salem and spend 4+ years of their lives as students or employees of Wake Forest. It's cool, it happens. It's a school that most of us went to and that all of us love dearly, but just like an article of clothing or a specific plate of food or a city or the color blue--it's not for everyone.

Still waiting to see who Wake is for.

Wake Forest has a track record for attracting the best coaching talent in America. Of course we should be able to get a top 10 coach. We have been able to recruit the best high school players in the nation. We have been to the Final Four multiple times. It is every coach's dream to coach at WF.

Who's got the #nugz? Little #Scoopla from Hoopla: From what I'm hearing, RW is panicking big time. Shaka talks are going nowhere.
BOT are leaning in heavily and putting a ton of pressure on RW. The Manning idea was all RW (like Amaker). Manning not approved (yet) by BOT.
RW doing the big, "Good Guy Pitch." Being told there is another meeting tomorrow to discuss next steps (or not). The Manning of it all I don't believe is the entire basis for the meeting. Here's to hoping at least. #GoldenNugz #DailyDish #Scoop

Manning is a midwest guy, he's playing for a Big 10 or Big 12 job. We've got to think that we gave Shaka an onerous contract and they are reworking. Wellman brought in Manning as a stalking horse, gotta keep Shaka honest. You guys need to relax, they've got a lot to work out (who is Smart bringing with him, where does Jeff Battle play in the assistant equation?)

You mean the Battle who was the associate head coach under Dino that got fired and the Battle that was associate head coach under WhAT'S HIS NAME and we sucked, and gave us Chase Fischer, Danny Green, Miles Overton, Anthony Fields, and was responsible for the substitution patterns that were that were on crack? That Battle?, Thanks but no thanks, Chill is the ONLY person in the basketball staff who should have any chance of being retained by the new coach. I mean I know the guy had a tough time losing his wife and Skip but that is no reason to keep him here

Could be good or bad for Wake. Good that the talk went well, but bad if Manning is option 10 and we've struck out on 1-9.

Danny Manning played us SO hard.

I'd be angry if I wasn't 1) relieved and 2) petrified that Russell f'ing Turner is the only coach in America willing to work for Wellman.

if wellman hires someone worse than buzz williams, he needs to retire
