Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

Is Mack>Archie? If the answer is No, did the answer change 3 weeks ago? I'm just trying to gauge how important a few tourney wins equals.

Mack has done it in multiple seasons and has a proven track record as a recruiter also. Your premise is stupid.

People won't admit it, but it is when it hinders sports performance.

There seems to be a massive disconnect here. Since Howland was able to bring in the #1 recruiting class, wouldn't it stand to reason that the status of the bridges in the Southern Cal AAU scene didn't hamper his recruiting that much?

Stop shitting on Howland, BJ. These aren't all the facts. Just ask Russell Westbrook. Even if it were true, when was the last time Wake landed anyone from the West Coast anyway?

Tier 4 has got to be assistant coaches. If Manning turns us down Ron has completely spit the bit on the much-vaunted head coaching experience and will have to get somebody's top assistant coach. Or Howland.

If ron trots out Russell turner I don't think even he would want to be at that press conference.

We are actually in a tough spot here. We are basically offering coaches a chance to go up against the best with one hand tied behind their back. Doesn't surprise me that coaches are saying no.

So...

Shaka is out
Marshall was never an option (maybe? either way, he's out)
Howland was never an option (maybe? either way, he's out)
Wright was never an option (maybe? either way, he's out)
Amaker is out
Miller is out
Mack is out?
White is out
Masiello is out
Manning is up in the air...

Where the hell do we go from here? Ron, please, do not trot out Russell Turner.

Editted to add Jay Wright (lol) and Chris Mack (would happily take him at this point)

Let's just offer floridas top assistant 1.3mm for 5 years. Honestly I don't even care who it is. Let's just go for it.

Over/under on the number of BBB complaints his site generates?

I stopped going over there once he banned me for calling him out on saying Andre Washington would be the best player on the team by the end of his sophomore year.

Deman replied that Andre has all the tools, but it is hard to gauge how much a player "wants to become great." (or something like that)

I then told him that he should be ashamed of himself for blaming a teenager for his own poor judgement. Banned.

I don't think Mack was ever considering Wake to be honest. Friend of Dino's, alum at X, and probably not a fan of RW. If Manning passes. Some BOT should take a briefcase with 3M to Howland directly and tell him he'll never have to answer to RW.

i guess fwiw, if deman is such an idiot, and his sources clearly suck, maybe we shouldn't read so much into him saying it's not a done deal

The part of this whole process that I cannot get past is Ron's apparent failure to place our University and his employer ahead of the NCAA in priority for his time and attention. I have had a strong sense that this has been the case for an extended period of time and it was being substantiated through the performance of all of our sports, not just football and basketball. We had fallen off the map in most sports including the ones we have traditionally and recently faired very well. This was telling me that the leadership and direction of our athletic department was lacking or at the least its leader was distracted.

I had hoped this issue had been resolved by the Clawson hire and that Ron was back and fully engaged. I am beginning to believe this was simply luck in that there were two very good candidates extremely interested in the job, making the selection process easy.

In looking at this entire basketball process which includes the delayed firing/resignation; the disjointed initial efforts to sell Shaka; the long distance style recruitment and interviewing process; and now the fact that Ron has to squeeze a visit with a potential hire between NCAA trips, leave him alone after only a few hours on campus for an IMG meeting this morning and flight back to Tulsa, and the most recent reports that nothing can be done because Ron is in Dallas; it is painfully obvious that his priorities are severly skewed. Honestly, I cannot understand how he is getting away with this type of treatment of such an important hire. If I were to ignore my primary responsibilites in this fashion there is no way I could survive.

If I am off base with these conclusions, someone please set me straight. However, looking at this process from my vantage point I cannot begin to accept the manner in which he has chosen to prioritize his time and attention, and it is looking more and more like we may suffer big time as a result.

Or Marshall. I feel strongly that we really missed on that one because of Wellman.

We shouldn't because that clown doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about. He never does.

Report: Danny Manning has accepted the Wake Forest job.

If Manning turns us down we just recalibrate the search to create more guys in the top three tiers and then go after them. Were exhausting Ron's list now and people will just be added to it.
