Delaware State Thread

Aaron did a great job on 44 during the middle of the game. It made him to shoot over a tall guy and forced him to drive. We should have switched defenders on him late. At that time, 44 was not going to jack up a long 3. He wanted to drive to force us to foul. That put Aaron at a disadvantage to try to stay in front of him. I would have loved for him to jack up a 3 late when his legs might be tired. So we probably would have been better off with Madison on him late. 44 did make a couple of great +1 plays when we got close late. You have to give him credit for making the plays, but in a 1 v 1 situation he is going to get by a 6'9" guy most of the time.

Manning burned a lot of capital and goodwill with this loss. Honeymoon over in my mind. Great that he is recruiting better, but the loss is on him. No reason we should ever lose a game like this.

I think Rountree was the best player we had on the floor tonight and either Devin, Codi or Madison were the worst. What an abomination of a loss, State and Minny will beat us like a rented mule next week.

I didn't watch the second half thankfully. Sounds like we shit the bed. It's funny to see people turning on the Super 7.

As well as Wilbekin played in the first half, I'm really puzzled by Manning's decision to barely play him in the 2nd, especially when we needed a perimeter shooting threat and ball-handling (I.e. Not Mad Dog Jones) to make the run that could win the game. In fact I was puzzled by Manning's haphazard, seemingly random trial and error sub patterns t/out the 2nd half.
Yeah, he was our best player in the 1st half. Would have to re-watch, but I don't remember him playing much at all in the 2nd half.

I only saw the second half but Delaware State basically used the same offensive tactic every time. They passed around looking for an opening. If they did not find one, they were content to run clock. When the shot clock was under 10 seconds one of their smaller guys drove past his man, who was still trying to stop a jump shot, and either scored, got fouled, or dished for an assist. I'll pass over the poor interior defense that allowed this. On the other hand, why not just back off of them a little bit with under 10 seconds on the shot clock in order to encourage them to take a jump shot and to prevent them from driving the lane?

Mind bogglingly inconsistent. Like the violent mood swings of a thirteen year old girl. And the post play of one, apparently.

complete lack of toughness, lack of leadership, lack of heart - all trademarks of Jeff [Redacted]

This is game 7 of Manning's tenure at Wake and his team is mainly made of a bunch of mediocre D1 college basketball players that all have limited skill sets ----this loss in on manning's record only because he is the head coach - this loss stunk of Jeff [Redacted].

I told a family member this tonight - the continued dumpster fire that is Wake basketball was ignited by one Ron Wellman. He is way more responsible for this loss than Danny Manning.

Manning has a pass from me this year ----i am not sure that any coach in America could win consistently with this bunch of guys......no disrespect intended to our players, we just simply are not a good basketball team - i don't care who we are playing - if a team shoots 40+% against us, we are not going to win. We simply cannot score the ball efficiently enough. Our guys do not play with the level of intensity to win games. That is a carry over of [Redacted]. Manning will get this thing turned around but it make take two years to do it.

Example of our team's limitations - NEITHER CODI nor MADISON has hit a 3 this year. That is incredible - but it also makes us very easy to defend. Pack the paint, double team the post and shade to Mitch and Hudson on Defense and make Codi and Madison shoot the ball from the perimeter.....that is an opposing team's scouting report on the Deacs.

UGGGG.....now watch us beat Minnesota on Tuesday night.

Yeah, he was our best player in the 1st half. Would have to re-watch, but I don't remember him playing much at all in the 2nd half.

Ha, I lost a bit of concentration grabbing a drink (okay and part of my Dad's) in the Hoops Room to start the 2nd so I can't say if Wilbekin struggled defensively early on outta the locker room, but he was generally guarding the DSU pt guard in the first and wasn't the reason May was lighting up our tits like a video game. From the 8 min mark on, the lineup shuda been CMM, Mitchell, Crab, Tree and DT/Dino. But yet Manning was obsessed with Madison Jones in 2nd half.

Hmmm yes, MJ and CMM should never be on the court together for any extended stretch unless we're going small with 3 guards (meaning Mitchell) against a quick small team. Alas, glaring lack of skill overall and thus these wild fluctuations in offensive efficiency.

In closing, I've been to one game live and I came away convinced that MWilbs is already our most skilled, polished and court smart player. Kinda scary really.

Their big man had 14 points, 16 rebounds, 8 blocks and played all 40 minutes. What a hoss.

You knew Del State would be quicker.

We are supposed to go Kansas on teams like this and run strong power down low post offense and dominate the paint, with lots of high percentage shots in the paint. Play smart basketball.

Oops.

Oops. We don't have a Kansas front court
