HP's UNC-Cheat Thread - UNC comes out on top, NCAA penalized by UNC

Here is a recap/update. Not succinct though.

What we know:
UNC was notified of 5 Level 1 infractions (the most serious violations), including loss of institutional control. Their response was due in mid-August, however on the eve of the deadline UNC announced that they needed more time because they had uncovered MORE violations. At the time, they said that they hoped to complete an investigation of the additional violations by mid-October 2015.

Since then everything has basically gone dark. The ball appears to be in UNC’s court to submit their response, which they have committed to make public. There are 3 theories about what is going on. None of the theories would involve reduced penalties for UNC.

Theory #1 – UNC is simply using delaying tactics. UNC could argue that they need an extended period to investigate the additional violations and amend their response to the NOA. This theory seems unlikely given the amount of time that has now passed. At this point they would be risking antagonizing the NCAA for failure to respond in a timely manner.

Theory #2 – UNC is waiting on an amended Notice of Allegations. This has actually been mentioned by UNC’s AD, but also seems unlikely. Note that the NCAA would only be amending to the NOA if there were ADDITIONAL Level 1 or Level 2 violations to ADD to the NOA. UNCs initial response in August was that the additional violations were minor. If that is the case, then there would be no need to amend the NOA. The NCAA would not be removing any allegations, because they are still waiting for UNCs response.

Theory #3 – The most likely explanation would be that the NCAA and UNC are pursing Summary Disposition, which appears to be the NCAA-equivalent of pleading “no contest”. This makes sense from the standpoint that it would spare UNC from anymore public embarrassments or disclosure of information, including having to issue a public response to the NOA. However it would also require UNC to agree to all of the violations in the NOA, and agree that they all rose to Level 1. It would also require agreement on penalties, and the NCAA would seem to have all the leverage in those negotiations. If UNC basically accepts guilt for five Level 1 offenses, it seems highly unlikely that they would get away with just monetary fines.

If UNC doesn’t pursue Summary Disposition, expect a six-month process from the time they file their response to the NOA to when penalties are announced.

Thank so much for taking time to lay that out there. It's nice to know that justice still may be done. And I'm not for justice because I'm an ABCer, I work for Georgia Tech, where I know the things that happened in Chapel Hill do not happen. That should not be able to get away with all they have done. And not done.

UNC-CH AD got a 10% raise.

All is well...in fact, it must be fucking great!

Another banner to take down
Yeah I've wondered if UNC is thinking it's going to lose a banner but from a PR perspective if they wait and win one this season, that'll negate the bad press. They can go into "that was in the past, look at we did now" mode.

I thought that from the very day they announced "additional violations" and effectively kicked the can farther down the road.

It is kind of cute how some of you still think UNC will really get meaningful punishment out of this from that paragon of fairness known as the NCAA

Carolina will never get punished until our Lord and Savior Heavy Petter returns from the dead to smite his enemies.

The Louisville announcement today kind of proves the point, they know something is coming so they slapped a tourney ban on themselves. Has UNC done anything like that so far? Of course not, they already know nothing is coming and their coaches are out there telling every recruit exactly that.

Carolina is far too arrogant, particularly when it comes to their precious MBB team, to self impose anything.

UNC self reported additional infractions to stall the process in order to protect their shot at a NC this year. It's been covered in the thread. The lack of anything happening right now means nothing about what will happen.

Having a great time imposing our will on the rest of the ACC this season, though.

This is the part of your attitude that totally mystifies me. I realize to some extent, you're just trolling the Wake fan base here. But your undergraduate alma mater was caught perpetrating one of the, if not THE most egregious acts of academic fraud in history, for the sole purpose of keeping athletes eligible until they are no longer of use to the school anymore. The acreditting institution has put the school on probation, the NCAA has slapped you with five Level One violations, and the school's reputation has been dragged through the mud. Yet all you care about is that the team is good.

Jeez.

Hey UNC,

This is what integrity looks like

The president of Louisville announced a one-year postseason ban Friday for the Cardinals men's basketball team amid ongoing investigations into a sex scandal, a decision that stunned coach Rick Pitino.

President James Ramsey said at a news conference that an investigation revealed violations did occur when the school reviewed allegations by an escort that a former Louisville staffer paid her and other dancers to strip and have sex with recruits and players.

Why does that mystify you? That is the attitude of the entire UNC administration and it is the primary reason why they did what they did. All any of them care about is that the teams are good. And that's all any of them ever cared about.

Nah, he's just into personal responsibility. Systemic problems are not real problems.

On PTI today they were talking about Louisville and the year ban and Tony said it would be interesting for the Final Four to have Louisville and it's HOF coach, SMU and it's HOF coach, Syracuse and it's HOF coach and.... Wibon asked which team would be the fourth, they thought for a second and then Tony said "this is a cheap shot, but Kentucky since they're always on the edge of violations". UNC didn't even get a mention - the worst of all.

Is a one year post season ban really enough for hiring WHORES to recruit?
