FUCK YOU, RON WELLMAN

Make Wake Great Again

Are you going to make the hats?

I posted an anti-Wellman response on Facebook to a friend's post about the ACC Tournament. I was surprised to get a like from a very prominent member of the Wake community who at least used to be a huge donor.

Year 6. 11-20.

It's already 7:14 a.m. Why hasn't he been fired yet?

Wake Forest deserves an athletic director that creates wins in the post season.

He'll stay as long as money keeps rolling in.

Just curious where this idea came from. I read it over and over again on this thread. Keep in mind that the majority of giving is going directly into athletic facilities. If we are positing that Hatch doesn’t care whether our athletic programs are successful, then why do we think that Hatch would force Wellman out if funding for those athletic facilities were to dry up? That might be the case if the overall Wake Will campaign (as in NON-AD fundraising) was impacted, but that is less likely and even if it did it would be hard to tie directly to athletics. But do we really think that Wellman’s future is tied directly to things like SPC fundraising? Really?

It seems like our collective frustration over the current state of the basketball program, and the state of the football program two years ago, has somehow caused us to vilify donors even though those are some of the people that are most clearly trying to make those programs more successful (at least that is my perception). That doesn’t make sense to me.

Also, if people think this is really riding on AD fundraising, don’t just stop giving. When you stop giving, contact someone in the Deacon Club and tell them how much you WILL give to the Deacon Club once a change is made. Wouldn’t that send a stronger message?

Sent a letter to Mr. Wellman dated February 3, 2016, that I would no longer be buying tickets, parking passes, seats rights, or DC annual gift until he retired or was fired. Told him when he is gone, I would rejoin the DC and contribute $1000 more than I did the "last year" and buy two extra football tickets on top of my section 4 seats. Funny, I haven't gotten a response.

Spot on but how dare you use logic over here?

The "He'll stay as long as money keeps rolling in" is just another in the great line of ogboards.com urban legends (like Ron Wellman makes $2M per year) which is posted often enough that people pass along the bullshit as fact.

Well done. This is the best way to implement a much needed change.

The message board hissy fits and protests will only amount to jack shit.

What does he earn? You seem to know all about wake athletics.

I've never seen anybody claim Wellman makes $2M. I've usually seen $1M on average due to that deferred payments year.

Ok, so one person suggested he makes $2 million. Not exactly my definition of "often"...

With perks and bonuses, you can probably safely say its $1 million a year compensation...

Not exactly a bargain

Not exactly a bargain

It was just under $1 million in 2013, and over $1 million in 2014. Safe to assume that trend has continued.
