FUCK YOU, RON WELLMAN

We could get the same results in basketball spending $200K each on an AD and coach. Meanwhile, we're pissing away $3 million a year.

You wouldn't even have to pay that much.

Bump. The fact that there isn't outrage at what a mess he made of Wake basketball is a testament to how advanced the Stockholm Syndrome is in the Wake fan base. It's like the preceding 30 years never happened. Sad!

People are afraid that if Wellman leaves Hatch will name his successor and doom us for even longer. Our university and its athletics programs have been taken hostage by a couple of greedy prigs, and misguided people are subsidising them big time. The best years for Wake both academically and athletically were when Thomas Hearn was our president. Under Hatch, academically we have at best tread water, while athletically we have regressed, especially in the revenue sports.

They have enjoyed the luxury of not caring about what fans/alumni think, because of the Disney Dollars flowing in under current t.v. contracts. The tactical indifference to the mental health and welfare of their fans is a poor calculation on their part, because as people cut the cord, the waters in the money river flowing through Greensboro will recede. And then Hatch/Wellman's successors will be left with the wreckage of raising money from The Lost Generation. Good. Luck. With. That.

Good post...Would not be surprised because Wake's weakness reflects in conference strength. There may be a movement at some point in time pressuring Wake to withdraw from the conference. You can't continue to free load indefinitely.

Not this again! Not happening.

This is certainly the party line on this message board, but I don't think the facts support it. The best Wake Forest has ever been ranked by US News was #23 in national universities, which occurred in their 2014 ranking. The best season the Wake Forest football team ever had was 2006-2007. The best series of seasons the Wake Forest football team ever had was from 2006-2009. Nathan Hatch started at Wake Forest in 2005, so he was the president during the highest ranking for the university and the best run in football. Not to mention that he was the president when the basketball team was ranked #1 in the country (2009) , when several other teams had their best seasons ever (men's soccer, women's soccer, men's tennis), and when the medical center achieved its best ranking ever (2013).

things change quickly. i wouldnt be shocked if college athletics as we know it doesn't exist in 10 years.

Possibly. The big change over the last 10 years has been conference expansion. That's barely 6 years old.

yep. barely 6 and the entire landscape has changed. i bet the conferences realign again, and the non performers and ncaa are left holding their respective dicks.

Yep. We get shut out if ESPN and the other TV powers want to streamline their offerings to focus on more competitive contests. Why waste 3.5 hours on a Saturday showing or 2 hours on a Tuesday night showing LOWF getting beat up?

ESPN would still need plenty of content to cover all their channels, wouldn't they?

It's just a matter of deciding ESPN3 only content isn't worth it.
