BBall Recruiting Thread 2k17-Chaundee Brown commits to WAKE! Brandon Randolph to AZ

I'd like to see where JC would be ranked in that class if they reranked it now.

It seems to me our key to success both this year and next is Doral Moore. If he can go 25 minutes a game and get boards and block shots, then we are going to be good both this year and next. Obviously, you'd expect him to be better next year than this year.

If we are trying to steal SJV minutes and Moore is back at 15 minutes per game and Collins is eating the majority of the center minutes, I think we will be a less effective team defensively and therefore not nearly as good.

I was looking at ESPN's 18 list and found a curious player. #5 is Jordan Brown. He's a 6'11 C from Roseville, CA. He weighs 196- 6'11, 196. WOW!

Since 2017 recruiting is done barring something unforeseen, I thought I would take a quick look at where we go from here. (It may be time for a new recruiting thread by the way.)

I expect that we will look at the grad transfer market in the spring. But we don't have a lot of obvious playing time to sell a potential transfer. It wouldn't surprise me if Greg McClinton just returned for his redshirt senior season at this point instead of taking a grad transfer. The only reason he wouldn't is if he just wants more playing time somewhere else.

For 2018, I think we'll give out three scholarships. We are definitely in the market for a point guard, another wing and a big.

Devon Dotson is both our top point guard target and top target overall as far as I can tell. UNC taking other commits and bowing out of the running helps us tremendously. The main competition will be Kansas and NC State. Although both Kentucky and Duke are keeping tabs on him, obviously that's a game changer if either of them offer and prioritize him. His brother Dalen Dotson plays at North Carolina A&T which will help us tremendously in our pitch to keeping instate, close to home. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/high-school/article84594612.html

Sharone Wright jr. is being targeted as a "big guard" whatever that means. He's already 6'5 and is projected by his doctors to grow to 6'8. I think we're targeting him as a point guard but it could be shooting guard as he's listed as both in different places. The staff has done a great job with the early legwork on him and we are an early favorite.

Isaiah Mucius is our top wing target right now. He is listed as a Top 25 player and Wake was on him extremely early being the first P5 program to offer. Losing Brandon Randolph hurts here because they are best friends.

David McCormack is our top big man target. But he will draw Blue Blood attention that will make us unlikely to ever receive a commitment.

I feel very good about the staff landing a great point guard and wing in this class. We have offered several at both spots and are in good shape with a lot of them. For a post product, its still early to see where the staff decides to focus beyond the David McCormack obligatory attempt at a home run.

Great summary, WakeForestRanger.

I can start a new recruiting thread if y'all want one. Maybe we can turn this one into the pre-season bball thread or something.

I think we need a separate preseason hoops thread and a new recruiting thread.

With the pieces we have to go along with our 17 class, i really like the direction our program is headed.

McClinton basically has a one year tryout to see if he is going to be back for his senior year. If he can show Manning that he can be a more valuable asset than whatever grad student transfer will be out there, then he will prob. be back. If he disappears this year, then he is prob off to a new school and we bring in a grad student. #hottake

Agree on Collins. He does not need to play center.

Scout article on Randolph to Zona. http://www.scout.com/college/basket...490-no-38-brandon-randolph-commits-to-arizona

What is Randolph most excited about?

“Definitely the platform,” he said. “All eyes are going to be watching us. We are going to have a lot of televised games because of who we are going to have on our team. There are other factors, but that’s probably the biggest one. Arizona itself is a great basketball school.”

But he will be. Collins and Moore is your center rotation not your frontcourt.

That should be our starting frontcourt. Unless SJM is ready for 20 min a game then we will certainly see some Dinos/JC lineups but if we are going to be successful JC should spend most of his time at the 4.

I hope these are right be we have not seen any indication of Manning being willing to play Collins with another low post big (i.e. as a 4). He and Devin barely played together last year.

I think he shoots well enough to play PF with a center who doesn't leave the paint, IE Moore. He hit free throw line jumpers and short corner shots fairly regularly. His low post moves are beyond his years already, so I think the most important offensive aspect he will need to develop this year will be vision/passing. With his moves on the box, he is inevitably going to draw doubles, especially off the dribble. How he handles them will determine his progression, but I like the idea of him and Moore working a 2 man inside game.
