College Football Final Four

Putting both B1G teams in so they don't have to choose between them would be awful.

Honestly, if Penn State gets in over Washington, I may just give up on college football until the eight team playoff.

I think if Washington is left out and Penn St is in, then its because OSU got in. Therefore, the CFPC valued OSU more than Washington. I think I have made my feelings about Washington very clear on this thread (For those that have not read them, as a Bama fan I fear them the most and have them ranked 2nd). Honestly, if this happens its because of either $$$$$, or the ability to sell an 8 Game Playoff. To the casual fan, OSU is a known brand and Washington is not. Its a lot easier to sell a game with OSU in it than Washington.

It is so easy to come up with a scenario where a Top 4 team does not win a conference title and still deserves a bid.

OSU and Michigan are unbeaten instead of each sitting on one loss. They are ranked 2-3 in the country or even 1-2. It's the last game of the year. And it is a close game. Michigan loses. They don't get to play for the conference title. OSU then goes and beats some 2 loss team from the other division. Michigan is the only 1 loss team in the nation. They don't deserve a bid because they didn't win their conference title?

Now if your argument is PSU deserves to go because they beat OSU and you simply believe they are the better team, that's reasonable. But if the argument is you have to win your conference, that strikes me as bogus.

That wouldn't explain why a team that doesn't win a conference title deserves a bid ahead of a team that beat them and did win a conference title.

Watch if OSU gets in (Im praying they don't not because I don't like them, but because IMO they don't deserve to be in), ESPN and the Media wont be discussing why OSU deserved to get in, but why either Penn St or Washington did not deserve to get in. My point is The Media will turn all the focus away from OSU and put it towards who got left out.

Just hard to see tOSU getting bounced and leaving out Washington who beat #8 by 31 is the easier sell.

Here is the other thing, how do we know The Big 10 is as great as the media and polls make them out to be? IMO, The Big 10 is "Top Heavy" and Penn St, OSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin piled up wins against the bottom half of the conference. That explains why they have 4 teams with at least 10 wins.

Remember 2 years ago when the SEC had 3 teams ranked among the Top 4 in the 1st CFP Poll, ended up sending Bama to the CFP, and Ole Miss played TCU along with MissSt played GTech in two of The New Years Day 6 Bowl Games. However, all 3 teams didn't just lose, but got smoked. I know the SEC still had a winning Bowl record as a conference that postseason , but because their top teams lost in all the major bowl games it had a negative impact on the conference as a whole.

My point is the Big 10 might not be as good as everyone is making them out to be.

Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Washington were the top four going into the weekend. That's who will be in tomorrow. Absolutely no reason for change. Talking heads talk. They don't have to make sense. Sleep tight.

But why is leaving OSU out hard to imagine? What has OSU done to make them automatically qualify as a Playoff team without even winning their division, let alone play for their conference title?

A win against Oklahoma on the road? Oklahoma has beaten no one outside the Big 10, and lost badly to both Houston and OSU. A win against Michigan in 2OT? Michigan did beat Colorado, but Colorado's starting QB was hurt that game. Michigan has 1 win outside their state against Rutgers.

2 years ago TCU was ranked 3rd going into the final week, won their game, and fell 3 spots.

Fuck PSU and their history, but it would be great to see them in while OSU is left home holding a bag of dicks.

Remind me why people don't think the results of the college football game played between Penn State and a Ohio State does not decide this question.

Bama, Clemson, Penn St., Washington.
In that order.
Sorry OSU. Games are played on the field. Penn St has another win in a game you were not invited to.

What a complete fucking cluster. The NCAA has only itself to blame by keeping the playoff at 4 in an effort to protect "the student athletes" while allowing them to play meaningless out of conference games and allowing FCS teams to have a real postseason.

There is just so much going on with the BIG. On the one hand, PSU is the most disgusting organization in the NCAA, truly deplorable. On the other hand, Meyer AND Harbaugh pitching a fit would be fun to watch. Can we just go with Oklahoma instead?

I realize you're not entirely serious here, because you realize it's not that simple, but the serious response is because sometimes teams lose to lesser opponents. And the result of that match-up only becomes relevant when the teams otherwise have very similar resumes.

Personally, it irks me that the committee has apparently already written OSU's ticken, because I think Washington should be a lock and all of today's angst should be OSU vs. PSU. Speaking to that, the reasons for choosing PSU over OSU are, in order of importance, 1) they're a conference champion, 2) the Big 10 is the best conference this year, and 3) they won the head-to-head match-up.

Washington was 4 and beat 8 by a bunch. PSU was 7 and came from way back to beat 6. TCU dropped 3 spots supposedly because there was no conference championship game. Of the P5, it really is the P4 and the Big 12 in terms of who the money people are going to listen to. The Big 12 could yell all they want, but no one cared. You try to do the same for the Pac-12 and I think you have a loud uproar.

The PSU v. OSU issue is of little consequence to the B1G, the conference still gets their share of the CFP dollars. Years ago on a thread proposing a playoff system to replace the BCS, my solution was to take the P5 conference champs and the next three best teams - a mix of subjectivity and objectivity. The major bowls would rotate hosting the championship game, semis, and 2 quaterfinals, with some second tier bowls - like the Peach or Cotton - hosting the other quarterfinals on a rotating basis. Not many people back then thought an eight team playoff was feasible and four teams were plenty. I am still liking my approach quite frankly.

The BIG is the best conference in football which is why its conference champion shouldn't be in the playoff !

Bama Clemson and OSU (unfortunately) are locks. I say you go with Washington at 4 and call it a day.
