WFU Soccer:

Probably because fans always bitch (and coaches always express regret) when they put their best takers towards the end. Remember Ronaldo at Euro 2012?

God I remember the debate on here. It's dumb. It makes very little difference where you put people within your first five unless you're assuming that their position in the lineup significantly affects their chance of making the PK.

Too much to hope for lack of smugness from the soccer elite on this board - maybe explain why penalty kicks are the best way to decide championships.

Or just scroll back like five pages? It's kind of on you for showing up and expecting people to regurgitate what they've been posting about for days simply because you just decided to start paying attention

From the half dozen or so games of yours that I saw this season, I think the one area that might have been a little lacking was in physicality. Now, that could have just been a symptom of the games I saw, so there is that disclaimer, but for all the possession and technical ability that was present, I didn't see that player or two that could essentially be the enforcer on the field. I'm not talking about having a total goon out there or anything, but a player or two that can and wants to get stuck in is fairly essential in the college game. A guy like Sam Cronin fits that bill pretty well. For the college game, he was still exceptionally skilled, but he's never been afraid of a challenge and in turn can disrupt an opposition midfield pretty easily. Find a guy like that and the Stanford game might have leveled out a bit, since Stanford didn't ever look concerned about things being turned back on them. Just a general thought from an outside perspective not knowing what's on your bench either.

OT win over Louisville in ACC tourney. We really got pushed around...

The reply to my first text could've been a simple "that was discussed in the last few pages, check it out". I didn't know that it had been discussed and I'm not going to read through a lot of this thread on the chance it might have. But it really doesn't matter. Winning Sunday wouldn't have raised Wake's profile and losing doesn't hurt it. It's a niche sport and I think one of the reasons is deciding championships with penalty kicks. I know I'm part of the great unwashed majority that can't get to the intellectual level that unlocks all of subtleties and mysteries and beautyof a sport that goes three hours without a goal being scored, but that's just me.

If you're watching for three hours that might explain some of the confusion. Soccer is 90 minutes

If you're too lazy to check if your point has already been made don't get upset when you get called out

I do 2 v 1 and 3 v 2 drills all the time and they have 8-10 seconds to shoot, much less score.

20 seconds. Holy hell. It's like you don't understand the game or something and are just throwing out keyboard diarrhea. Cool bro. Cool.

Not if the defenders are properly positioned. And it's 3v3 including the keeper.

Maybe take the full size goal out, pull the keeper, and replace the goal with one of those goals they use for 5-year olds.

Don't forget to put a sandbag on the bottom bar at the back.

Going down to Pugg goals would be awesome though.

Maybe make it a 6 goal game, 6v6

----------- PUGG ----------------------------- PUGG ------------------------------------ PUGG

First to 7 wins. Losers pick up cones and goals.

Fair, I might have been a bit harsh

Saw a gut-wrenching tweet from Dunwell yesterday. The first sentence reads, "I missed my PK to lose the National Championship." He then goes on to point out his great team, season, etc.

Much respect...

It's the national championship. Play OT until someone scores, like it used to be. If the risk is that it can go too long (like that 8 OT game some years ago), remove a field player after each OT until someone scores. In 40 years ago as a little kid, that's how one league I played in used to do it.

I much preferred in HS when we went to a shootout instead of PKs. Americans already get shit on for calling it soccer, but having players start at the 40 and try to score on the goalie was fun and more skill intensive than taking a PK. But the rest of the world accepts PKs as the final method, so we do too.

Being a niche NCAA sport is not why they settle it with PKs. Every soccer championship in the world uses PKs. The World Cup is not a niche event.

Yes, really feel for him and Partain, esp Hayden because his PK would have won us the nattie. I'm sure the rest of the team/staff have rallied around them...it is a team game; no 1 player should feel responsible for such a gut-wrenching loss. So proud of the team.....

GO DEACS!
