WFU Soccer:

Maybe if we lose a recruit to MLS early on a homegrown contract, I think we might dip into the foreign market. He might have qualifying issues like Brek Shea, though.

Can you imagine that guy coming up against Stanford's #4 or that all-time great center back from Denver? Lolz, one shoulder barge on a sandy pitch and he'd be toast.

What are the chances Harkes plays for USMNT? If he is a top 5 pick in MLS and has no shot, then what is the ideal path for a premier American soccer player?

A smaller league. Netherlands, Scotland, somewhere Nordic, etc. Not unprecedented. Bedoya, Charlie Davies, others have and are currently finding success in leagues like that.

That does seem most likely and realistic for him; maybe a lower level English team, as well.

Interesting fact : 14 of the 23 Herman trophy winners from 1978 - 2000 came from Indiana (5), Virginia (4), and Duke (5), but those 3 schools have only produced 3 winners in the last 17 years

MLS Draft today at 3 pm.

It looks like Harkes may end up in Europe (Scotland or Ireland or lower English team).

Baller.

Deacon nation, we know you'll approve of @JacoriHayes' tie choice.

He's expected to go mid-late first round, so probably around 4pm is the time to check in. There seems to be mostly questions around where he fits on the field at the pro level rather than skills or athleticism.
