What are the chances Harkes plays for USMNT? If he is a top 5 pick in MLS and has no shot, then what is the ideal path for a premier American soccer player?

There was an article in the Washington Post today about Harkes as a finalist for the Heisman equivalent for College Soccer. It said that since Harkes came out of the DC United Academy (Harkes is from the DC area), DC United has his rights, guessing that is why he is not going to the combine. Also, although a US Citizen, Harkes was born in England, when his Dad was playing over there. For reasons that were not fully explained, the article indicated that given that he was born in England, Harkes would be more attractive to English clubs and likely to begin his soccer career there. (BTW, I'm talking way past my level of knowledge).

He's more attractive to Euro clubs because he can get a UK passport, if he doesn't already have one. That eliminates work permit issues which are always a stumbling block for US players who go overseas.

Dude - I played soccer, I know the game well enough. I threw 20 out there -- make it ten. Anything is better than PKs to decide a NC.

Coaching drills. I don't actually practice anymore other than pickup games.
 
The Daily Show gives out a men's college soccer player of the year award?

It really has been a year of Deacon heartbreak. Losing The King, Maya, the national championship, and now the Elrod debacle (not to equivocate the 4). 2016 really can't get out of here fast enough.
 
At least the Elrod fiasco has kept many of the tools off this otherwise good thread...
