2017 College Basketball Coaching Carousel (Matta out at Ohio State)

Mark Prosser is lead assistant at Winthrop. Wonder if he has a chance of getting the head job.

Kelsey has some New England connections though, right? I know he has done a bunch for the Newtown victims/survivors.

That probably depends on what you consider New England. Because if you mean it in the traditional sense, then absolutely not. But if you mean it in the sense of the entire United States, then sure.

Seems kinda lateral.

No way this is lateral. Atlantic 10 is much bigger on the TV market plus NCAA teams getting in. Big South has virtually no TV market and is a one NCAA team. Would imagine his money will be much better at UMass.

Connecticut is technically part of New England, although I think most people I've met from Connecticut consider themselves to be closer to New Yorkers.

Always felt we should operate WFU football in the same way. Create a great program and then plug and play. Dont overpay to keep a coach, as the contract can become an anchor (see Grobe). If the coach leaves, it means he was successful and we just need to make another good hire.

I feel like this is how Temple Football is starting to operate. Not that level of success yet but have been consistently decent lately.

Kelsey has deep Ohio connections. He is from Ohio; played at Xavier, coached HS basketball in Ohio, was Chris Mack's top assistant at Xavier and Winthrop has 4 players on its roster from Ohio. If Kelsey can get Ohio kids to Rock Hill, SC, it will be easier sell to get them to UMASS.

UMASS has 28,000 students, and when they are good, the Mullins Center is a tough place to play. With the right coach, UMASS could be on the same level as Dayton and VCU. Would guess that Kelsey's salary just doubled if not tripled.
