Totally Unofficial 2017/18 Premier League Thread (NWT)

Liverpool better score goals in buckets considering almost nothing has been done with our defense that gave up a ton of goals last season.

I think this is the year that Spurs put it all together.
Top 6
1) Spurs
2) city
3) chelsea
4) manu
5) liverpool
6) Everton

arsenal finish 7th.

bha for the drop

What's the basis for the belief that United will be materially better this year than last year? I see a team with a lot of depth but I honestly don't know who Mourinho's first 11 are and I'm not convinced that the first 11 will be better this year than last. Somebody [DV7] tell me why I'm wrong.

I'm not him and I don't like United but it's a little bit of Mou year two, a lot Lukaku + Matic. Think the Matic signing means Pogba can move up higher and score/assist more. Also think they've strengthened their defense considerably with Lindleof. It'll take a while to find their sea legs in the league but they've definitely improved their squad. Whether Champions League screws them up or not is yet to be seen. It was just glaringly obvious they threw all their eggs in the Europa basket last season, leave position be damned.

Why's everybody got Everton top six? Good luck scoring the same number of goals without Lukaku.

It's still the top 7 and everyone else imo. The top seven had a positive goal differential last season and the bottom 13 didn't. There was a 15 point gap between 7th and 8th. Whether Everton switch places with one of the others in the top six is hardly much of a stretch. For me, Spurs playing away from home and not adding to their team at all and playing in Champions League again but this time without your best defender...they could seriously slide. And I don't think any team below us is yet poised to make the jump.

I think Toby's team take a step back this year and we still don't know if Alexis will play out the season with Arsenal or wind up at Man City or elsewhere.

Man City
Chelsea
Arsenal
Man U
Liverpool

Also I just think making predictions before the first kickoff is a total crapshoot and hence bold predictions are fun.

This Magician situation has been a roller coaster of emotions.

If Spurs field their best XI, we could win the league. But we all know that doesn't/won't happen.

GW1 Starters (maybe) 4-2-3-1
Lloris
Dier Toby Verts Davies
Wanyama Dembele
Son Erikson Dele
Kane

(could also go 3-4-3 with DTV in the back and Davies and Son/Sissoko as wingbacks?)

Bench
Vorm
Carter-Vickers
Wimmer
Winks
Walker-Peters
Janssen
Sissoko (may yet leave)

Injured/Unavailable
Lamela
Rose
Trippier
N'Koudou

That bench includes 3 PL goals and 8 PL assists from last season (if Sissoko stays). Lamela is dead, Son may be called up to the S. Korea WC qualifiers, Rose may yet end up in the doghouse and we have no right back aside from an injured Trips and KWP, who isn't ready. Pretty much any injury will be bad. We've been super lucky so far that someone like Dele/Eriksen hasn't had a long-term injury. Like most of the big six, it feels like if it coalesces for Spurs, they could win the league, but if it falls apart, we could end up fighting for a Europa place. Maybe it's just the start of the season or the knowledge that "Spurs are Spurs" or the constant screaming noise in the back of my mind, but I'm leaning toward the latter right now.

Or we could sign a RB and Mateo Kovacic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm thinking the top 10 is:

City
Spurs
Chelsea
United
Pool
Arsenal
Hammers
Everton
Palace
Burnley

Though with a few weeks left to go in the transfer window there could still be some big moves.

Also, I'm super sad that James Richardson left the Football Weekly podcast. I guess I'll have to check out his new pod.

Max Rushden is good though so I'll keep listening to FW twice a week.

Pochettino says that if Spurs play 4 at the back, Walker-Peters will be RB ... 3 at the back and Sissoko will play wingback. Interesting.
