2018 World Cup Thread - Fantasy Updated through Semis, BTB has three point lead

what is the argument against simply stopping the clock during injuries, using a college soccer-style timing?

Also there seems to have been an edict from FIFA to blow for full time right when the added minutes are up. Can't remember two many instances of it going much past the added amount save for a goal and/or VAR review

???

It was very clearly not a penalty, VAR got it nailed on - an excellent pinpoint tackle. And Sanchez had been magnificent in this entire match against Mane. He had a horrrrrrrrible mistake to start the Japan match (he didn't get the red card / penalty but it was his misplay of a long punt that led to the whole situation) but he's been fantastic the last 2 games.

Sanchez and Mina is such a tasty long term CB pairing.

Sanchez has blown this whole tourney. He's been beat for pace repeatedly and doesn't seem to win many balls in the air either. I get you're a Tottenham fan and want to have his back. But he's been subpar all tourney and today was no different. Mina, on the other hand, has been a bit of a revelation. If it's in the air, he wins it - never mind the goals.

While I'm glad Colombia are through, I'm sad for Senegal. Poland had 2 great chances fairly late but didn't score a 2nd goal - Lewandowski mishit 1 from right in front on a great cross. Hope either Belgium or England destroy Japan and hope James gets healthy.

Did you watch the end of the Germany game yesterday? That was an example of it stretching quite a bit longer than planned.

He's been beat for pace? That part I don't get. This entire game Mane had little impact because Sanchez ran him down or stayed with blocking purely on pace.

The Japan match was a disaster for him, but I thought he's been excellent the past two and he stuffed Mane into his pocket today and kept him there as a WC souvenir.

stoppage time wonk seem to be pretty far down the list of problems with professional soccer

Yeah, again, there were two goals in stoppage time and two VAR reviews. I noted those exceptions

Dude. Over and over and over in this tourney he is beaten by quicker players. The only reason Mane was in that position on what should have been a penalty is because of Sanchez, not in spite of him. The guy has been mediocre, and that's being kind. Maybe he'll turn it on. I wanted to draft him and was beaten to the punch. Sort of thankful for it so far.

We are talking about the same Sanchez, right (Davinson, not Carlos)? He was the covering defender on Mane (he was pressing forward and Mina was deeper as the slower of the pair) and used his pace to close and deny the chance.

He's not a perfect player and he's very young - but he and Mina have just thrown up a pair of clean sheets against Lewandowski and Mane & co and never really gave a sniff at goal. They have a nice balance of bigger, slower defender and the faster pressing one and it's not like the rest of that team is providing much help defensively to them. Pretty impressive performance by both of the young CBs.

I'm sure broadcasts differ as well, but Austrian TV was basically blowing Sanchez for his pace and dealing with Mane over and over (remember, Mane played in Austria and destroyed this league like an alien come to earth).

Does anyone want one of my 4 advancing FWDs for either supplemental picks or players?

I couldn't believe when they officially changed the announced six minutes of added time (already a wtf decision) to nine minutes! Did the fourth official hold up the board again? I've never seen that before. Their reasoning was clearly because stoppage time began with a VAR decision, but still

We are talking about the same player. The same player who has not been up to par in this tourney. He graded out as the worst player on the entire field vs. Japan, as Colombia's worst defender vs. Poland and as their second worst defender today (because Mojica got himself a card and generally sucked). He's supposed to lead the backline. He's not cutting it in that role so far. In addition his mediocre marking, in three games he's won a grand total of three balls in the air. Arias - who has the vertical leap of a sloth - has won more balls. Murillo won 6 in the only game he played. Mina has won 9 in two games. His pass success rate, which should at a minimum playing in his position be in the mid-80's has sucked too. 69, 72 and 86. He has been utterly mediocre. I say this as someone who wants Colombia to win the whole shooting match. He needs to pick up his game.
