BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

Isaiah Wilkins committed to VT

Can he play shooting guard in the ACC? He can shoot but does he have the quickness and ball handling skills ? I’m not real disappointed about this one but it shows how badly last year has hurt Manning in recruiting. Sad.

Apparently you (and JC for that matter) haven’t heard that JC was destined for NBA stardom from the moment he set foot on campus and that Manning actually held back JCs development by not playing him enough his freshman year. Without JC magically falling into his lap, Manning’s first 4 seasons would have been even worse than [Redacted]’s!
Manning both developed JC well as a player AND under-utilized him as a frosh, and more than likely as a sophomore, unless you buy into the idea that Manning suddenly figured out how to effectively perform the rest of his job for one year and then forgot it the following year.

Anyone have an update on Wynn? Is he enrolled and practicing? If not when? Thanks.

Thank you. It’s not hard to understand. It’s like a chef who prepares a wonderful meal and forgets to serve it.

He served it, y’all just didn’t enjoy it. Given the ingredients he was working with the only thing he could have done better was close out some of those close games. It’s hard to argue that roster should have been any better than #30 in the country.

GTFOH.

Glad to see y’all coming around on Manning as a talent evaluator/developer.

We had our assistant coaches watching Tre Mitchell and Omar Payne over the weekend. Caleb Mills is taking an official visit to Houston this Friday and Saturday. 247 has crystal balls for him there, but I just can't see him committing to Houston if we are showing serious interest. Will be interesting to see if Anthony Harris releases a list soon; Indiana is the strong new player in what was supposed to be a race between us and Virginia Tech. Staff needs to land someone to get some momentum before Wendell Moore's official visit.

we got served, all right

Plug and play. Buzz loses McCallister (for at least next year) and lands Wilkins. What's the consensus on the Langley twins who decommitted from VT months ago? Any Wake interest?

The twitter rumor mill (only one person from BSD but still) has said that he heard through the grapevine that Cole Anthony is going to visit Wake next week

More than likely, but:

1. It’s actual news and better than other conversation happening right now

And

2. Everything I’ve read on him says he plans to keep his recruitment quiet and close to the best so you never know what his priorities may be.

The uproar would be huge if he put out a list that didn't have bluebloods all over it. Him keeping his decision making process private and quiet may be slightly favorable for him not going to one of the blues.

You get so caught up in rankings that you forget about things that matter, like wins. It seems far harder to argue that Manning figured out how to mostly optimize his gameplan, timeouts, player usage, lineups, etc for a single season, that just happened to coincide with JC's explosion, and then promptly regressed the following year. Top 30, top 25...who cares. Evidence from all of his seasons combined points to the idea that the team likely missed out a good chunk of potential in Y3 under Manning. He could have closed out some close games. Or maybe those games wouldn't have been close with some better coaching to begin with? Doesn't it seem more likely that Manning was the same coach in Y3 as he was in Y4 (and Y1/2)? You have admitted just how poor of a job he did this past season. Do you just assume he forgot how to coach?

Glad to see y’all coming around on Manning as a big man talent evaluator/developer whose abilities as a coach peak at the assistant level.

FIFY. Classic case of the Peter Principle combined with the often faulty assumption that success as a player translates to coaching.
