Report: Kavanaugh won’t commit to recusal from Trump/Mueller related matters

It’s remarkable how quickly donkeys forget the consequences of this appointment on American jurisprudence when it suits them.

Don't be a hack. You think Professor Ford decided this summer to try and bring Kavanaugh down? She lived through the Anita Hill hearings. She knows that bringing these facts to light most likely won't matter. And she knows the facts won't matter because your party is made up of a bunch of pieces of shit who care more about power than anything else.

And she still did it anyway.

Maybe you should just go back to the "if he wanted to rape her, he would've raped her" defense.

GOP take: Kavanaugh was doing an investigation on the utility of trains in the United States.

Need Sailor's take on whether a sworn declaration constitutes a formal proceeding or if Swetnick needs to exhaust that remedy before going to an investigative body.

I eagerly await the answer.

Nope. He is a slimeball, but he's the only one willing to play as dirty as literally every Republican.

And no one has been able to prove anything he has made public to be false.

Maybe the Dems should have him ask some questions tomorrow. He could ask:

Did you know the woman with whom Judge Kavanaugh participated in a train?

Did Judge Kavanaugh put his penis and scrotum in your face like he did at Yale?

Nope. He is a slimeball, but he's the only one willing to play as dirty as literally every Republican.

Yeah. But as a lawyer, it kind of comes with the territory.

It’s worse that the GOP realizes what they are doing. They know their ideas, plans, and positions are unpopular yet they push them through anyway. They know that to stay in power they need to do everything they can to decrease voter turnout, gerrymand, etc... there’s always this idea that somehow liberals are the intellectual elitists telling everyone what to do when clearly it’s the shitty GOP. Anytime a position is broken out as a single issue it usually overwhelmingly points to ask GOP do opposite. Since they know this yet still push onwards they must think they know what’s best for you so shut up and sit down.

Demographics, public opinion, etc are all moving away from the GOP. They’re a wounded animal so they need to be extra aggressive now to extract as much cash as possible for their donors before history moves on.

Nothing new here. Everyone knows it's a he-said/she-said situation that happened 35 years ago with unclear memories all around. That only really matters if the goal is to apply a "presumption of innocence" and reasonable doubt standard on a job interview. The problem for Kavanaugh defenders is that more and more claims of his bad behavior in the early 80s keep showing up, and the goal posts have to keep moving to justify a "yes" vote on that job interview. A few pages ago you were arguing that the lack of other accusers makes Ford less credible... how does that goalpost look today?

I'm not sure I understand why people think Avenatti is a slimeball. He's held Trump, Cohen, and Kavanaugh up to the rule of law and represented otherwise marginalized clients.

well he has the same reputation as Trump around town, he doesn't pay his bills.

There's one Avenatti but there's an entire Fox News Network of opposition. How'd shutting up and taking the high road against Trump work out again? Pubs tried it an lost the nomination then Dems tried it and now he's President. Keep it up, things can absolutely get worse. Enjoy Trump's 2nd term and him learning the word "mandate."

Further away, I would say after a quick read of #3’s affidavit, but Avenatti hasn’t done the process any favors by keeping his surprise under wraps until today. If I were on the judiciary committee, I would invite her to come, but there would be no negotiations. She would come on the terms we set or she wouldn’t come at all.

I should also add that her story has some real problems, and if she isn’t willing to come, it should be ignored entirely, at best, or, at worst, further evidence that this is a calculated smear.

Of course, you'd want it ignored. It's only a woman Kavanaugh and his buddies abused. It's not like it was a man. Boys will be boys after all.

If the gang rape happened in MD, there is no stature of limitations.

Question- Can an Associate Justice hear cases while doing time in state prison?
