Chicago Cubs Thread - Playoff Push Pending

Candelario starting off strong. Swanson and Belli going off.
And of course Nicky 5-tools skyrocketing that classic 3B OPS to .725

Cubs playing inspired tonight

Decent first game for Candelario. Surprised he started at first base but it makes sense. Just adds to the flexibilty of the roster.

Noticed that Andrew Chafin moved to the Brewers for Peter Strzelecki. It took a decent major league reliever to land Chafin, but he would have been perfect. After watching Anthony Kay get drubbed finishing tonight's game, the inability to acquire a lefty reliever leaves this team with a big hole in the bullpen. Not good. Past time to address this problem with someone in the minors.

Tauchman for Suzuki in right Last night. Gotta keep Tauchman in the lineup for as long as he continues to produce. Suzuki has struggled but I don’t see him sitting for any extended period as much as he’s getting paid. he needs to get it together

Suzuki needs another day or two to chill out. His level of frustration is noticeable. He would benefit from a drop in the batting order. Seventh seems about right. Take some pressure off.

And he's on the bench tonight for Suzuki against a LHP. Just don't get platooning a hot hitter. This is one of my biggest frustration with Ross. He's done this a few times this year.

Well it was a hip inflammation. Hopefully he figures it out

I figured it was the blister post London. His slider has been a damn cement mixer. Assumed he couldn’t generate the spin because of it. Whatever the issue hopefully he comes back at least as his career average

I'm going to go out on a limb and say if the Cubs average 15+ runs a game the rest of the season, they will win the division!

I've had to watch this series on the Reds sports network due to a blackout on MLB. The announcers for the Reds have been tough to take, as to be expected when a team makes an unexpected run for the playoffs. The first game bordered on unbearable. The second game shut them up. Lots of big talk to begin tonight's game. The rah-rah has now disappeared. Midway thru a Cub four run 7th inning, a summary of of the past two nights action was stated like this.."This is like sitting on a beach and watching a tsunami approaching the shore." They can't recall a worse two night beatdown.

I said the same thing. Dude was poking his chest out early in the game, and now his is awful quiet. I think the Cubs hurt him!!

It's one benefit of having Spectrum in NC. I get 2 Bally's, the Braves and the Reds broadcasts.

Looks like the Candelario trade may be historic.
It sort of reminds me so far of when they went and traded for Aramis Ramirez back in the day. May that comparison hold true going forward.

First time since 1894 the Cubs have posted 16 or more runs in back to back game. Obviously 16 back to back is rare, but 129 years?
