Steve Forbes credibility watch

Depth would be nice but 7 man rotations aren’t that unusual in college hoops.
Right. The bigger issues are a lack of consistent offense and a defense that was exposed weeks ago that is now a gaping open wound, despite Numbers extolling at the time that it was the right defensive system because of #stats.

7. On a long enough timeline, Forbes will make the tourney a couple of times- he is not a terrible coach. But my fear (and the current evidence) is that at best, he will be like Keatts- capable of getting a team to the tournament, but not capable of building a team that is actually competitive. And not capable of building a team that is consistently good.
I went into this season saying I thought he would get us in the tournament this year or next year but I am starting to doubt he can ever get us over the hump. He will certainly get the chance next year if he can't this one. To be clear, I like Forbes and want him to succeed.

We don't really have a 7 man rotation at the moment. We have a starter who is a shell of himself, a freshman who is a defensive liability, and a guy returning from injury who is a turnstile. We have 4 guys (Miller/Sallis/Carr/Reid) who are consistently playable at the moment.
Are you saying Parker is a defensive liability?

^that's the hard hitting stuff we come here for.

Anyways winning at home is a mandate, not anything to worry about bc if we lose 1 home game it's a wrap for sure. Gotta win on the road and gotta win a lot on the road from here on out to even think about getting a look at NCAA

Just trying to simplify things: WINNING!

I loved Skip Prosser. Just like a love Steve Forbes. Both great Coaches.

My beef is with the revisionist history that is what is destroying. So many believe it’s just the Coach and that is the solution to our problem.

A Coach is one of about 4 factors that matter. We need to fix the real problems. Need $$$$$ and proper stadium so that a Coach in 2035 isn’t dealt an unwinnable hand. Pretending the hand is winnable and pretending we had “glory days” under Prosser only makes us repeat the same failed strategy.

If our job was open right now I’d hire Justin, Pat or kevin giltner. But even they won’t win without our help.

I have to agree. You guys are such fucking idiots if you can't understand that NOTHING matters more for winning games on the road than the quality of your home arena which has a great home court advantage. Until you unsuccessful losers understand this, we are DESTINED to lose road games forever.

Aren’t we still paying Manning? We lost that case right?

We darn sure don’t need to be paying Forbes as well. If he leaves that’s different, but as is we need to be building capital for men’s hoops for the future.

@donaldross is the size of the Arena or coach the MOST important factor? I assume that coaches like Pat and Wes Miller under 6' would really thrive in our new arena with it's 8' ceilings.

You have to have it all. NIL money and a united fan base pulling in same direction as well. Right now we have a B coach and the other 3 factors are D at best.

5 years ago Ole Miss was us. Shitty history, basketball apathy, crap arena, middling Coach.

Now they have all 4 factors going.

How do you reconcile our home record vs. road struggles over the past couple of years with prioritizing a new arena?

The arena rarely impacts the games. That’s never been the argument. It’s the recruiting. We can only really get foreigners and transfers for that reason. High school kids want money and atmosphere. We have neither to offer.

Forbes is wise to sell “big boy basketball.” That’s all we have. A p6 stage.

Not this bullshit still. Recruits that can change our program care about one thing, and it's not the stadium.

So here’s the deal with hoping for success next season, we need to keep some of our best players! We need at least 2/3 of Sallis, Miller, Reid to stay. If we lose all those dudes to transfer/pro then we won’t make the tourney next year, and with how frequently rosters turnover now, it’s hard to believe we will keep these dudes.
