Pit Cruising Thread

Just called Celebrity and did a status transfer from Royal Caribbean. It was super simple, and took all of 5 min. Since we are Diamond on RC, we were able to get Elite on Celebrity. Just priced a few cruises, and the cost is less than RC. Looks like we'll be trying a new cruise line for spring break.

I love love love Celebrity and am dying to go on an Edge class ship

Royal prices right now are absolutely out of control. I continue to be shocked that are still booking with them considering their current prices.

It it weren't for comps I wouldn't even think about Royal as an option.

i'm starting to get excited for our Nile cruise this spring....nothing on the docket after that though. we have talked about doing the viking west indies cruise that hits the panama canal but no booking yet.

lots of news articles out recently about how you're all killing the planet

Help!! Couple just asked us to go with them on the Princess Line, Sun Princess leaving Ft. Lauderdale for a 7 day NYE trip this coming Dec/Jan.
I know little about cruising though we are doing our first river cruise with Avalon in May. My buddy's wife is a travel agent so she has some pull.
Is it worth considering? I'm concerned obviously about the caliber of the line, costs and going on a boat that big, crowds, etc. I'd like to get my wife interested in cruising since I love the water but is this a good first experience for her? Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Just got off Oasis of The Seas after a week. Absolutely fantastic ship. So much to do.

I thought Labadee sucked as a port. Beaches are too rocky to enjoy much.

You'll be fine on Princess. Much different than a river cruise, but you should have a good time. What ports are you visiting.

I loved Labadee, but the one time we visited, also on Oasis, we went to the Suite beach, which was very sandy and nice.

I'll have to try that next time. We did Adrenaline Beach and multiple people cut their feet on jagged rocks in shallow water.

Not sure on the ports after San Juan; waiting more details from my buddy.

Bringing this bad boy back to page 1 - in the process of booking a Viking cruise from Amsterdam to Basel for late April 2025.

It will be us and three or four other couples in the group - looking forward to our first Viking experience.

We had a Princess cruise scheduled on the Enchanted for the kids 6th bday surprise, but just cancelled that to do an all-inclusive resort in Playa del Carmen instead. We got a swim-out suite so I know the kid is going to have a great time, but I'm interested to see how a resort compares to a cruise.

The price is certainly better and you won't have to then also buy a beverage package on top of that, so that's nice. Expecting worse quality food tho. We shall see.

that cruise was tremendous. Loved every minute of it. The Marksburg Castle day was great; Strasbourg and Kinderdjik were probably my two favorite excursions.

the food on viking is amazing.

Awesome, can’t wait. How is the free wine on board?

it's good; excellent choices of 4-6 wines every meal, including some local options for each port. I would NOT pay for the silver spirits addon unless you are planning on getting shitfaced, and if you do you will feel out of place. It's not a party cruise - much more laid back. It's intimate - only 200 people on board, so there's no getting lost.

HOWEVER, you can often get them to add it on to your package if you need to negotiate something, and then you can hit the bar without any costs. Bar charges and laundry are literally the only things you'll spend money on. There is no nickel and diming, which is nice.

We actually did get the spirits package on our ocean cruise with them - someone in our group negotiated it for us. The mealtime wine options were not that much better; the value is in the time you spend at the bar before and after dinner.
