FUCK YOU, RON WELLMAN

Pure fiction. All that's missing is your tin foil hat.

Wellman owns the Bzd hire and deserves all of the shit he catches for it but Bzd was down the candidate list and all of the coaches ahead of him on the list either had to say no or throw out comp demands out of the ballpark Wake was playing in at the time. The fact he was even on the list to begin with was the biggest issue, imo.

But many Wake fans both on the message boards and in real life were clamoring for an "X's & O's" guy after Dino.

Is a tinfoil hat a perk once you hit the $5k mark with RTQ or did you make your own

Remember all the quotes gathered from NBA players, etc. about how good Redacted was? That's when you knew we were in trouble.
Don't worry! It's still there on Wake's website.

"Wake Forest has definitely hit a grand slam with Jeff [Redacted]. I've known Jeff since we worked on the same staff at Davidson College back in the late 1970s, and I've always respected how hard he has worked at every step in his coaching career. People around the ACC will find out very quickly that Jeff is an outstanding basketball coach."
- Rick Barnes, Head Coach, University of Texas
And now Barnes will receive his comeuppance for this nonsense tomorrow when the Horns knock out his Rocky Top Ugly Orange Wearing Volunteers.

Remember when we earnestly thought he was going to hire Brad Stevens?

jokes aside - i think he did want stevens and maybe would have had a realistic shot if brad did not go on an unexpected and magical run to the final four right after we fired dino

I may joke about Bucky... but seriously - Wake needs to a hire a guy one year earlier than they might be ready

I said this on another thread - but Bucky is everything that donaldross thinks Wes Miller is

Wake got killed by Xavier in the NIT - coach was skip prosser
Wake got killed by Air Force in football - coach was fisher de berry who led wellman to Jim grobe
Wake got killed by Air Force in basketball- coach was Jeff [Redacted]

The first two worked out because they were good coaches and good fits but it doesn’t make me impressed by Wellman’s acumen for hiring coaches.

Another random wellman memory, didn’t he strangely refer to manning as “Daniel” at some point as well? Like a parent using a given name

Wellman fired Dino after the Final Four.

It’s more likely Wellman hung out with [Redacted] at the Final Four and decided to make the move only 6 days later.

Wellman also announced that the next hire may not "win the press conference"

Bz was lined up. I firmly believe that and Wellman knew it was a stretch hire but thought he was smarter than everyone else.

April 8, 2010 Andy Katz article: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...d/5067873/wellman-gives-reasons-firing-gaudio
He will act quickly, not hire a search firm, and handle everything by himself.

"It has to be someone who can take over the program and reach the goals and objectives we have," Wellman said. "We're not out to win the press conference. I'm not saying we won't, but that's not the priority. I want someone for long-term success."

When we fired Dino, I was firmly convinced that we had someone like Stevens or Smart already lined up to be the replacement. It was the only thing that made sense.

The utter destruction of the WFU basketball program is one of the most inexcusable things I've ever observed. I mean, we all make bad decisions. But to make the sort of decisions Wellman made, then to double down on them, and then to speak in the most condescending manner possible to WFU sports fans (e.g., customers) is just mind-boggling.

I'm not suggesting that WFU should publicly shit on this dude, but if I were in charge his name would be quietly scraped from campus. More for that "historically competitive" nonsense and the unbelievably arrogant and condescending way he spoke about the mess he created, than for a bad hire or two. You can be dumb. But you just can't be arrogant, condescending and dumb. I would really like to speak to someone who knows Wellman personally and well, to find out what kind of cat he really is. Maybe he's an OK guy who just didn't have a grasp on public and media relations. It's hard to image Wellman as a person is as bad as he came across in print and video.

There's got to be a WFU alum filmmaker somewhere who should make a documentary on the last 20 years of WFU basketball. It would be gold. A study in bad decisions and how not to mitigate them.

Giving him the chance to hire a second coach, not picking the right guy again, and extending him with an $18M buyout was... something.

I will still never understand how the board and president just signed off on all of this for a decade? I mean, no one said "hey, this seems like a bad idea."

i'd say "inject this into my veins" but it's already there...

BUT LOOK AT ALL THE FACILITIES WE ADDED!!!!!11111 (just like every other P5 school with a pulse)

Didn't he also make some comment about how our next coach "might or might not have won a national championship" because somebody's cousin's niece talked for a hot minute to Tubby Smith about the Wake job? I mean maybe there were serious discussions but it's hard to believe. And then we end up with [Redacted]/Manning.

May or may not have a national championship under his belt.

He didn’t lie, technically.
