WFU Hoops: '24-'25 Roster Construction Thread: +Spillers/Biliew/Cosby/Johnson/Abass

I mean there's almost no real way to police people taking paid information from one site to a different site. It's honestly pretty surprising that it doesn't happen here more often than it does, but I guess Conor/Les posting here occasionally is effective in discouraging that behavior.

Will be interesting to see what happens at Duke. I think they have 6 recruits coming in for next year.

Only Roach & Young will be gone. I think the only NBA guys are Flip, McCain, and maybe Proctor.

Beyond the numbers not adding up, I have to think they'll lose some highly ranked guys that played very little... TJ Power? Sean Stewart? Maybe even Mark Mitchell?

Schutt & Reeves redshirted (I think).

Hard to imagine so many Top 100 (heck, top 20) guys riding the pine.

Love looking to see how Duke wastes talent.

5 star TJ Power was the #17 player in the HS Class of 2023. This season, Power had 10 "DNP coach's decision". In 13 other games, he played 5 or less minutes. He scored a total of 52 points in 36 Duke games. Almost all of them were in garbage time. WF offered Power, and he would have a big role for WF, had he headed to WF. Power is not even listed as a possible late round pick on any NBA draft boards

Sean Stewart was the #22 player in the HS Class of 2023. He played more than 10 minutes in a game twice. Both blowouts. Stewart got no meaningful minutes. NBA is a pipe dream right now for him.

Those guys are now fucked as even if most of the current Devil starters go the NBA (not clear), as Duke has recruited over them with the incoming recruiting class. In addition, Duke may try to grab a nugget out of the portal given the projected youth on the 2024-5 roster. Also, the draft stock for Filipowski has dropped. At one time, he was considered a lottery lock; now, he's generally thought to be late first round. Same story with Mark Mitchell, who came to Duke as the #13 player in his class; now is not on most draft boads and even Tyrese Proctor, who is not a first round lock.

No program wastes talent and ruins NBA futures like Duke.

If we lose Carr, Sallis, and Boopie on top of 5 scholarship players, then I’m done with Forbes.

What a joke, this is.
With Forbes?

Done with college or simply Wake basketball, I get. Not sure what Forbes is supposed to do about Sallis leaving or Boopie wanting $500k short of personally funding a starting 5.

I mean yeah this would be beyond depressing. I think roster stability is overrated somewhat, but it's hard to imagine establishing a consistently good program with this amount of year to year turnover. I mean Forbes has done so well in the transfer portal that he gets national recognition for it and we still have nothing to show for it. You have to retain at least some of your talent.

The rumor was that if Carr was going we would hear about it today right? Or are we just going to be on edge until the portal closes?

Done with both. Forbes is the CEO of this team and, good lord, does this organization seem like it’s in constant disarray.

My hope for the upcoming season was in returning Reid and Carr with any type of talent around them (some combo of Cam, Sallis, PF, Juke, Portal guys), we still had the potential to be really good.

In non-buy games:
Carr and Reid played 578 minutes together:+173, or +12.0/40.
With one on the floor: 544 minutes +15, +1.1/40
Neither on the floor: 88 minutes, -42, -19.0/40

Yeah, we need Carr.

If Carr goes, I see absolutely zero incentive for Sallis to stay knowing the potential shit-show he will be playing alongside in 2024-25. And then the house of cards will be Reid next.

I really have to go back to some of the earlier departures. Marsh has been here for 3 years, fellow Brit to Cam, and and fellow big man to Carr. What was that conversation like between Marsh and Forbes? The guy was one year away from graduating from Wake. Did Forbes ask him to leave b/c he thought he could upgrade? If so, could have driven a huge hole in the team. When your teammates just start disappearing, much less incentive for you to stick around.

I don’t think those conversations are ever Coach forcing a kid out. I believe it is more of providing a dose of reality and then let the player take that and do what they want with it.
Marsh was likely told, that there is expectation that both Reid & Carr will be back. Plus they are recruiting portal for strong 4/5, so if you want to spend your senior year similar to how your junior year was, we’re happy to keep you around.

If Cam or Carr are serious threats to go, then I am not sure what WF can do next.

If we can't outspend other programs and we can't sell a winning culture, then what we can sell is we play a style that showcases your talent to make money somewhere else. Which doesn't actually translate into meaningful wins for our program, but can get some talent in the door.

College sports, yay!
