NC restaurants that are overrated or overpriced

Just went to Allen and Sons this weekend. One overstuffed lb of Q, three sides and two large drinks set me back $15. Not bad considering that amount of Q fed me twice.

Allen & Sons is the best Barbecue in Chapel Hill/Pittsboro

Went to Allen & Sons for lunch today. It was very good, though they did charge my buddy for a refill of Coke, which was kinda lame.

Daniel Boone Inn in Boone. Great concept, great history, but it has jumped the shark, in my humble opinion.

nice. that's a great deal for just 15 bones or clams or whatever you call them.

The one in GSO is open and we tried to go a month or so ago on a Friday and it was an hour wait. I had some AWESOME shrimp & grits from there at a bridal show so I'm tryna get there.

That is the Kotis's foray into restaurants. It was failing so they bought out the name and really poured alot of money into the place. Ate there before the Rush concert last April. Really good food.

El Chupe American Hero is doing an Allen & Sons/Coopers double feature today.

If you love authentic Mexican, its hard to beat the food the serve from the taco trucks (if you have them nearby - in Georgia they're pretty easy to find in Gwinnett County and Hall County).

How about Frost seafood house in Salter Path? I never went there but heard it was good for a "fish camp" style food

I've been to Frost and their fried seafood is excellent, but the atmosphere is somewhat lacking (old furniture, dirty carpet, etc.). Frost is within a block or 2 of Crab Shack (not the chain), which has comparable food and a nicer dining room for much higher prices. I've always heard that the tourists go to Crab Shack and the fishermen and locals go to Frost.

I had no idea bkf was a big JD Salinger fan. One more reason to like the guy.
