WFU Hoops: '24-'25 Roster Construction Thread: +Spillers/Biliew/Cosby/Johnson/Abass

I fail to see where going to ND helped him earn more money long term. Maybe he never would have gotten 1M plus in the NFL but if he kept up his insane stats at wake maybe he would have.

Because his career in football is very possibly bigger than his backup qb paycheck and he made himself into a household name by fronting ND for a season.

Hartman got paid $2M+ from reports we've heard. It's unlikely he'll make that much in the NFL, regardless of wherever he played his final year. Hope he does, but he'll be on The Bachelor soon enough either way.

He massively increased his “brand”/exposure, got paid, and then got to choose a pretty ideal NFL landing spot where he’s also getting paid. He seemed to have worked the system to his benefit just fine.
I'm sure that was the goal . But I'm not sure it helped him much far as the draft cause after the year he had at ND . Nfl teams looked at him as a game manager. Which probably had him go undrafted. Yes he got paid by my redskins (always be redskins to me) which I'm excited about. But at Wake his year as far as stats go may have been much better. That and he flat stunk it up at the senior bowl which didn't help him.

For me, Carr’s departure and landing at Kentucky is troubling only because RTQ posted here, about 3 weeks ago, that he and Cam were staying.

Take it to the Tunnels!

Did I click on the wrong thread?

I mean, if you’re looking for the place where we discuss the new norm of players leaving Wake Forest, and the natural ensuing question of how we will feel about them after they’re gone - a topic for which Sam Hartman will always represent, for Wake fans, the ultimate dividing line… then no, you didn’t click on the wrong thread.

Maybe Carr was staying 3 weeks ago. Then he changed his mind.

I mean I get that yall are all in on this libertarian player movement-fandom model, but do you not owe anything to your coaching staff and teammates anymore?

But it doesn’t matter - if things fall the way I’m expecting them to, then we’re gonna make the tournament before UK does under Pope anyway

That’s allowed. The part that bothers me is that RTQ seems out of the loop. Plus the sudden change is unsettling. Speaks to ATS worry that these new commitments maybe are all that solid.

Carr didn't announce he was staying.

And IIRC, the RTQ update might have been qualified (as things stand now, or the like).

So less clear that it was a sudden change, and certainly not a public one.

The RTQ update was something along the lines of “unless he turns pro.“

I can’t blame RTQ for not foreseeing this. This has gotta be the Wild West for these brand new collectives.

Player movement is pro-labor. Didn’t expect to see Strick simping for the boss man.

it seems to me that just a few years ago, the primary reason you'd lose a player "early" was to the nba

now, with NIL and loose transfer rules, you've got the additional option for players to leave for "better" options in the portal

i'm glad players get paid.... but the portal and NIL are frustrating as a fan

I understand the frustrations of adjusting to the new ways of roster construction, but is there a fan on here that really thinks there is any chance at all that the added 8 players as a collective are not going to far outweigh the abilities of the 8 departures?
If the roster remained exactly the same and we replaced Hunter with Juke, would you be excited for a tournament run next year?

A LOT could be contained if the second transfer rule was still in effect. You get 1 freebie, I'd love to see that instituted.
Only a few months ago, we were against the second transfer rule.
