Basketball Recruiting Megathread 1.0 has run its course

It's a ridiculous rule. If he wants to play high major ball within 7 hours from home (Tarboro, NC), his options are to go to South Carolina or to sit out a year. Way to look out for the student athlete guys.

If you give Bz every possible benefit of the doubt and give some credit to every excuse then he has been at best a mediocre recruiter. I automatically discount the opinion of anyone who claims otherwise.

Yep.

So let me get this straight. We have an incoming freshmen who is supposed to be our PG of the future to the point that we didn't offer a PG last year until it was too late who ended up being a McD. We only have interest from 4 players listed on the Scout Top 100 and two are PGs and one is a 6-0 SG?

What a joke.

I agree with everyone that Bzzdoofus is a Bzzdoofus and a mediocre recruiter at best. Losing Robinson hurts because we could have gotten him... The list hurts, too. We won't land anyone on this list. Even Reed is a bit of a longshot. McClinton is gonna go prep, but I think taking a flier on him would be smart. Super athlete with size... Of course, there's always my man Hairston if you're looking for a bit more skill.

I will say that I met Chill tonight and he's convinced that CMM is the real deal. I don't know if it was merely because I was starstruck, tipsy, easily deceived, desperate, or all of the above, but I really believed him. Don't know what Chill's word is good for, but I think we may have lucked into a star. *fingers crossed*

We dont' need another one dimensional wing. We need a SG and a big.

Dude, we can't choose. We need good players with upside. I'll fly down to WS, myself, and work with McClinton on his jumper. After tonight I'm beyond depressed. If CMM isn't close to Christ himself, then we're going to lose 20+ games next year.

Said the same thing about Tony Rutland back in the day. I'd be happy if CMM was another Rutland but we need more than that.

We have a kick ass recruiting class coming in. Who wants to come in as a Frosh behind the Super Seven?! We should get big interest the year after next.

We have a highly rated class. We know the top 100 is BS based on the Rchildress107's post above. We are not Indiana, Duke, UNC or Kentucky. A big draw in Wake recruiting is the easy sell - "You can come in right away and play against Carolina and Duke. If you take that UNC offer you might not play until you are a junior". Can't say that so easily with a highly rated 7 man class in this year, right? And if you do the Buzz-outers will be all over you for running the current players out (what was the complaint about a statement regarding CMM starting that allegedly caused TC to transfer? - Buzz is an ass for saying it, yadda, yadda, yadda).

I agree we could use another big. But if I am a high school senior and I have to compete at Wake with a guy who was on ESPN breaking a backboard and 7 footer named Washington (whether or not he redshirts), it may be a tougher choice than coming in knowing you will start.

We have a great class coming in, just enjoy it. In most places around the county, when I say I went to Wake Forest people say "that's in Illinois, right". We are not UNC or Kentucky where we can just reload and keep recruiting over people. A big part of the sell is "you can play now". If you lie about that to the kids that are coming in, or the kids you just told it to, it will become a probelm. We need quality players who will play 4 years like Chill and Timmy D., and Travis and CJ (who will get some much needed help this year). We can and should compete at the top level of the ACC, but we are never going to be able to do it like UNC can, year in and year out. Patience, young grass-hopper

Maybe the accent is different. Do you mean places around the "country" or "coooountry"?

I am not "poor mouthing Wake" whatever the heck that means -- and it is an odd criticism from someone who is negative everything Wake hoops. I am one of the only remaining optimistic fans. We got lucky twice in the past 40 years and got two of the best players on the planet about 15 years apart, one who happened to grow up a mile down the road and one who was totally under the radar that we stumbled upon due to a broken pool. That doesn't make us UNC or Kentucky. We have a great history, but don't let that blind you to reality - one of the attractions of coming to Wake (apart from a great education) is playing time, which makes it hard to get successive great classes of players. The Greeks have a great history, but they are enduring a rough patch too. We will be great again, but people need patience and perspective.

Steve Shutt everyone.
He "appreciates" our passion for Wake Forest athletics.

I appreciate that I don't look like Steve Shutt.

GROSS!

We'll have Travis, Moto and Tree at SF do we need another one? If they were 6'9 SFs like JJ, it would be one thing.

You're acting like I'm defending [Redacted]. I'm not.

I'm simply setting priorities.

Nobody is acting like anybody is defending [Redacted].

You are just making that shit up in your own head. Just like you made shit up that people sent you reps wishing that you would "get cancer." It's all fabricated.

JJ was an inch taller than Travis and Arnaud. He's likely the same size as Greg & Christian.

i feel like a broken record on this but we need to bring in Mac, if he is still interested in WFU. local kid, athletic and can play the SG/SF hybrid type position...i think he would be similar to a Stickland type of player. we can always use those types of guys!

unless you think we will defy all odds and get the players we want, we just can't pick and choose.

looking around, i also just don't see these top SG or big men are even interested in us right now...am i missing something? where are these players listing us on their top 3 or 5 even?

We don't seem to be even a consideration for top prospects. Unless that changes in a hurry we will continue to be stuck in the second division of a weak ACC.

Greg is listed at 6'6. James is listed at 6'9. Not exactly an inch.

Greg is also listed at 165-180. James and Moto are over 210. Travis was listed at about 195-205. Only Tree is as little as 190.

He's just not the player we need. He sounds like a great kid from a great family. If we needed a player at his position or if he could the three and play SG, I'd love to have him.

We were recruiting like a top 20 program under the evil Dino and now we are strictly mid major in the minds of the the 2013 class. The 2012 class is not talented enough to get us an Ncaa bid.

i am really nervous about us having to settle for players rather than bringing on real talent because they don't "fit" as well as we would like. we will not bring in an impact center, no chance. the impact SGs are going elsewhere right now. maybe we will get one of the remaining but i will not hold my breath. we sleep on Mac, he will go to another team in the ACC and beat our ass for 4 years.

The 2013 class will most likely be the next to last piece of evidence we need to confirm that Coach [Redacted] will not be our coach after next season. The 2012-2013 season will likely be the final piece of evidence.

I don't know if kids actually think about their situation in this detail, but if someone from the region signed with Wake and Bz got fired, they wouldn't be able to go anywhere else in the conference or the area (unless South Carolina counts). A bad coaching staff that people know isn't going to be around long has long-term effects too.
