2017 Football Recruiting

No way that happens after this week.

Does 94 know if Clawson is going to look for a new DC or promote someone on staff to DC and then look for a new position coach?

DC Candidates - Short List:

Roc "Big Bird" Bellantoni
Vance "Cookie Monster" Bedford
Maurice "Mr. Snuffleupagus" Drayton
Billy "Bert" Crocker
Melvin "Ernie" Smith
David "Grover" Kotulski

No idea yet. Sorry.

Cohen has some DC experience at Fordham and Rutgers. The only external name that I've seen so far is the Army DC.

Clawson needs to hire a DC real quick.

This is an important hire so I hope Clawson goes through whatever process he needs to. Elko leaving isn't really a surprise. The ND rumor was out there for a while. So undoubtedly Clawson has a list ready to go.

From a recruiting standpoint, the dead period started on Monday of this week and runs through January 11. So if a new DC was hired tomorrow they would be prohibited from any in-person contact with our commits for the next 4 weeks. They can text or have phone conversations. Of course, that also means that other schools can't have in-person contact with them either.

Yes but I figure McCartney was the recipient and he is long gone.

But the current Army DC was McCartney's DC.

Clawson would need to be confident he didn't use any information.

Here is a mini-board of sorts. I expect this will be very fluid, especially over the next 4-5 weeks. As a reminder, the staff has five open spots but have indicated that they are considering using just 3 this cycle.

The dead period is currently underway and runs through January 11. So in-person contact is prohibited.

CORNERBACKS

OJ TUCKER (Vanguard / Ocala, FL)
Ratings: 247 3-star (87), Rivals 3-star (5.5)
Commitment Status: Uncommitted (Decommitted from Georgia Tech on December 2)
# of P5 Offers Other Than Wake : 7
Official Visit Plans: Maryland (January 13), Wake Forest (January 20) and UCF (January 27)
Notes: Maryland is the favorite here, but I don’t think their lead is insurmountable. Wake has been targeting him for several months. Coach Elko did his in-home visit on December 1.

JA’SIR TAYLOR (Brick Township / Brick, NJ)
Ratings: 247 3-star (85), Rivals 2-star (5.2)
Commitment Status: Committed to Temple
# of P5 Offers Other Than Wake: 0
Notes: Wake offered on November 13. Wake had in-home visits with Taylor on November 30 and December 8.

ADAM SPARKS (Dutchtown HS / Geismar, LA)
Ratings: 247 3-star (87), Rivals 3-star (5.5)
Commitment Status: Uncommitted (Decommitted from Vanderbilt on December 16)
# of P5 Offers Other Than Wake: 2
Official Visits: Visited Wake Forest on December 3 and Mizzou on December 10. Had some eye-popping numbers at the Nike combine, specifically his vertical jump and shuttle.

SAFETIES

AVERY SHOWELL (Cartersville HS / Cartersville, GA)
Ratings: 247 3-star (79), Rivals 3-star (5.6)
Commitment Status: Uncommitted (Decommitted from Wake Forest on December 16)
# of P5 Offers Other Than Wake: 4
Notes: He said that Wake is still a contender. Played on both sides of the ball for Cartersville’s state championship team. As a receiver he had a ridiculous TD/reception ratio. He made plays all season long. Was 6’1 / 192 at Nike. 4.65 40.

REED BLANKENSHIP (West Limestone School / Lester, AL)
Ratings: 247 3-star (86)
Commitment Status: Committed to Middle Tennessee State
# of P5 Offers Other Than Wake: 1
Notes: Multi-sport athlete from a small town in Alabama. Was 6’2 / 174 at Nike last spring. 4.58 40.

OFFENSIVE LINE

DEMETRIS HARRIS (Robert E Lee HS / Jacksonville, FL)
Ratings: 247 3-star (84), Rivals 3-star (5.6)
Commitment Status: Uncommitted (Decommitted from Georgia Tech on December 8)
# of P5 Offers Other Than Wake: 1. Lots of non-P5 offers.
Notes: I really doubt that he ends up back at Georgia Tech. Harris was one of Wake’s top targets last summer. South Florida might be a slight favorite. UCF is very involved. Louisville may be considering an offer. Coach Tabacca did his in-home visit on December 11.

WIDE RECEIVER

SAGE SURRATT (Lincolnton HS / Lincolnton, NC)
Ratings: 247 3-star (83), Rivals 2-star (5.4)
Commitment Status: Uncommitted. (Decommitted from Harvard on December 15)
# of P5 Offers Other Than Wake: 2
Notes: One of three players in the country to surpass 2,000 receiving yards this season. Has official visit to Wake scheduled for January 13. His brother Chazz was a highly-touted QB recruit that flipped his commitment from Duke to UNC after the Heels offered Sage a preferred walk-on spot on the Heels basketball team. Duke and UNC are reportedly also involved.

What are our chances with Sage? He seems like ON of those guys that can just straight up play. May not have the exact measurables that the big time schools look for, but has always performed and has that "it" factor. Really hope we can get him.

Xavier exploited what I think is going to be a very concerning matchup problem for us as we enter conference. Dinos just isn't athletic enough to cover the four which for most teams is actually a guard or small forward. Hopefully Danny will revert to the zone when this becomes apparent like he's done more recently. Any thoughts on how to deal with this issue as we really don't have too many options on the bench ?
Sorry meant to post it on other thread
