2018-2019 NHL Thread – Thunderstorm Warning

We are so damn streaky. After starting 2-2 we've only once had a win-loss-win stretch and only once had a loss-win-loss sequence. Keep the win streaks going, but gotta do a MUCH better job of bouncing back from losses

Bob McKenzie posted his expected Canadian Olympic roster, and it is terrifying.

I think Hall should be in and I'm not sure on Nash, but I don't think that's on the level of the Ryan / Yandle snubs. No apparent over-thinking on the bottom six. Just multiple lines of amazingness. Jerks.

The are weak on the right wing :plos:

And if Rinne was healthy Backstrom probably wouldn't even make the team

Having a rough year this year though, 4-9-2, sub-.900 sv % and +3.00 GAA. Harding's massively outplayed him.

NHL.com Finnish dood projecting Rask-Niemi-Lehtonen right now.

Still trying to get his form back but he is really really good.

Jonathan Quick made his return over the weekend and stopped 27 of 28 shots. Wooo, USA!

He faced likely Team Canada goaltender Roberto Luongo, who stopped 46 of 48(!) shots. Um, not bad.

Well, the Czechs went all kinds of goofy for their Olympic team:

Czech stunner: Hudler, Vrbata snubbed from Olympic roster

Calgary’s Jiri Hudler and Phoenix’s Radim Vrbata — the third- and fourth-leading Czech scorers in the NHL this season — have been left off, along with Florida forward Tomas Fleischmann.

Instead, the Czechs have gone with a number of veteran players, including 42-year-old ex-NHLer Peter Nedved and 30-year-old Jiri Novotny, both of whom play in the Czech Extraliga.
...

On defense, there were more curious snubs as well. St. Louis’ Roman Polak, Colorado’s Jan Hedja and Detroit’s Jakub Kindl were all passed over and in their place, a trio of Extraliga blueliners have been selected — Michal Barinka, Lukas Krajicek and former NHLer Tomas Kaberle.

Sweden's gonna roll through their group with Czech-Swiss-Latvia

Canada should have an easy group round also, with Finland, Norway, and Austria. Though Finland's goaltending means they can steal a win anytime.

Sounds like the Russians are waiting to be the last to announce their team.

You excited for the Canadian announcement, Deacon? Any snubs that would make you angry?

Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia.

Easily the hardest group, Slovak is the "best of the rest" and Slovene has Kopitar. The good news is everyone advances so the group stage is just for seeding.

SND's boi Backstrom doesn't make Finland cut, they do go Rask-Niemi-Lehtonen
