2023 WF Baseball - Schedule Released

The early errors came back to haunt us. Overall, I was very impressed with our pitching today, but the balk for a run, alone, was enough to steal a W from us....

5 home series against teams in the ACC that are a combined 60-58-1 and we were only able to go 7-7-1 and 1-3-1 in series.

We are 4-5 on the road with series at UNC and NCSU left.

Our record in Sunday games this year in 8 series is 2-5-1. We need to get mentally tougher. Had a chance to sweep at GT and were never competitive. Had a chance to sweep at BC and blew an early lead. Had a chance to avoid a sweep against ND and blew that game. Had chances to win series at home against FSU/Clemson/UL and went 0-2-1 in those games. Almost blew the Duke game.

Atlantic

L'ville 15-8-1 (@VT and UVA)
ND 13-8 (Pitt and @Miami)
FSU 13-11 (Miami and @UNC)
State 12-11 (@Duke and WF)
WF 11-12-1 (@UNC and @State)
Clemson 9-14 (@UVA and BC)
BC 5-22 (@Clemson)

Coastal

Miami 17-7 (@FSU and ND)
VT 14-8 (L'ville and Duke)
UVA 14-10 (Clemson and @FSU)
Pitt 12-11 (@ND and GT)
GT 12-15 (@ Pitt)
UNC 10-14 (WF and FSU)
Duke 9-15 (NC State and @VT)

The 12 ACC teams with the best records make the ACCT. The pessimist would say WF can still drop out of the top 12. The optimist would say WF could still finish as high as the #2 seed (extremely unlikely). The one benefit of the tie is that it probably eliminates the possibility of tying Clemson for the last spot in the ACCT as WF would lose the tiebreaker with the Tigers. Obviously, the UNC series is huge. Win the series and WF would likely clinch a ACCT berth; lose it, and WF will not won an ACC series since April 8-10 @ Duke. Yikes.

Was at the game. Livid watching the bunt attempts by both teams. Is bunting not taught these days?

bunting is hard, but especially hard with fastball velocities as high as they are these days. the key is to not ask players to bunt, especially when the defense is expecting it.

that said, to walter's credit wake is last in the acc in sac bunts this season with only four

Are fake/attempted bunts tracked? Fake bunt on first pitch ok….after that, it is not fake or surprise.

Hawke can usually put down a consistent bunt. Best one we've had in years....

2 perfect bunts, one of which he was safe at 1st is enough to be #1 @ Wake the past 10 years.

perhaps you are trolling but jake mueller is the best bunter i can recall. but didn’t watch a lot during those mediocre years (before will craig)

A lot of poor bunting in the past has been greatly affected by the call to bunt and timing. But we have done it often, at weird times, with weird players. Such makes us look bad, overall. Hawke has great technique and the speed to get around the diamond better than any other current player, IMHO.

Hawke showing off. Gunned 2 runners out from RF, 1 at 3rd, 1 at home!
