Ammonia/Chlorine Smell During Intense Workout

About a third of the time when I'm in the middle/end of an extended workout (1.5 hours plus at target heart rate 140bmp), I smell ammonia/chlorine as if pool water is draining out of my sinuses. But I know this isn't the case. I haven't done much swimming.

Is this a common physiological occurrence? Am I dying of brain cancer ? Can other people smell it? If so, gross.
