What can you tell me about Philly? I am in town for the week taking a class in the historic district part of town. Of course there are the obvious historical places, but what are the not so obvious ones? Good places to eat?
Thanks in advance,

Forensic

Dinic's Roast Pork Sandwich from Reading terminal market was voted best sandwich in america by some dude on the travel channel...it is killer. Check out the alternative papers (Creative loafing or whatever they have...philly was always good with music, so you might catch a good show.)

Don't catch Legionaires disease.

False. Go to nicks on south 22nd st and get a roast beef overboard. Then smother it in fresh horseradish and banana peppers and enjoy. Best sandwich in Philly hands down.

Go to Tony Luke's for a 'whiz with' cheesesteak. Also, get the roast pork & broccoli rabe that Sgt Hulka mentioned - Reading Terminal is a cool spot.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a must see, imo.

Also, there is a badass flip-cup tournament there every year if you are in to that type of thing.

Grab dinner at Ralph's in Little Italy. But bring cash because they don't accept credit cards.

John's roast pork makes the best sandwiches in the city. Sarcones is worth a trip too.

Can't remember if we decided it was a Tier 2 city or Tier 3. We may have compromised on Tier 2(b).

By historic district, do you mean the Old City / Independence Hall area? If so then you're near Zahav, which is excellent. It is family style, so you might want to go with a group.

I made a side trip over there just to check this out. Outstanding sandwich, but damn was the line long now that they won that award.

If you are going to Reading Terminal you MUST have some Bassett's ice cream. It it the best ice cream in the world.

If you a bball freak, take the subway to 34th Street and visit The Palestra.

If you are staying near Independence Hall, you can walk down to South Street and try Jim's for a cheesesteak and got to the legendary JC Dobbs to listen to some original music. People like Bonnie Raitt, George Thoroughgood, Hall and Oates, The Boss and others have played at Dobbs.

You never know. The band playing that night may become stars and it's down and dirty.

There are probably some good places in Headhouse (2nd Street near South).
