Coca-Cola City, GA. In a joint venture public-private partnership, the City of Bowman Georgia has agreed to lease naming rights of the city, streets, and landmarks to Coca-Cola. Financial terms have yet to be disclosed, however, the length of the lease is believed to be for twenty years.
“Effective immediately, the city shall be known as Coca-Cola City. This is a great way for us to generate revenue to help rebuild our city and market ourselves as a business first community.” Mayor Pete Gibbons announced.
Other changes in Coca-Cola City include changing the name of local landmarks. The Bowman Community Center will be known as the Coke Zero Center. The city park will be renamed Powerade Park. The medical center will continue under the name of the Dr. Pepper Medical Center. The famous downtown well, famous for being the town gathering place, will see new life as the Dasani Downtown Well.
Street name changes will include the following. Broad St will now be known as the Mello Yello Mile. Railroad Street is now Sprite Street. Prince Avenue will see new renovations as Minute Maid Lemonade Lane. In honor of longtime mayor, Mr. L.B. Berryman, Herndon Circle will be designated Barq’s Berryman Boulevard.
“With the money generated from this partnership, we feel we can do great things in our community. Coca-Cola is an iconic Georgia company and partnering with them felt right. We had other options available but with everything they do for the community, we felt this was an easy choice to make. In addition to naming rights of the city, Coca-Cola has offered similar possibilities to our residents. Any Coca-Cola City child born and named with a Coca-Cola themed name will receive a scholarship to cover their future tuition costs.” Mayor Gibbons added.
