Chicago Cubs Thread - Playoff Push Pending

Yankees sweep 5-4 in 18 innings. 48 total strikeouts set a MLB record. Expect more roster moves since the bullpen is shot, Rizzo and Baez were hurting and Hayward still can't play. Could get ugly.

Arrieta's velocity isn't the only thing that is dropping. The size of his free agent contract is in jeopardy.

This team sucks. Stick a fork in them. Unload bandwagon.

It has been ugly. The youth and lack of experience of the players is showing. It also appears that the relative health the team has experienced over the past two years might be changing. Adversity that needs to be overcome. It's still early in the season. 125 games remain.

And even if let's say the Cardinals go on to have a wonderful season and win the division, one of the two NL Wild Cards should be more than attainable.

Milwaukee is currently holding the second one down. I don't think that's gonna last

Ian Happ has looked like he belongs at least. No idea where he goes when everyone comes back. Different story with Candelario.

One of them returns to Iowa when Heyward is activated. The fate of the other depends on who gets the 13th player, the bullpen or the bench. Happ has made the most of his opportunity.

I'd like to see Maddon change the lineup. Pick it out of a hat if necessary, but do something different.

The Cubs combine 28 hits, 19 walks and shaky Cincy defense to score 25 runs in a sweep of the Reds. All three games followed the same script, grab an early lead, keep scoring and hold on. The Brewers visit for three day games this weekend. Keep it rolling.

Pierce Johnson called up from Iowa and Candelario sent down. Heyward to South Bend for a rehab assignment. Maddon prefers an eight man bullpen to a five man bench, but Happ is making a strong case to stay.

Milwaukee coming in, not PIT.

I was hoping we'd go 5-1 in this stretch to get ourselves going. So far, so good

Brewers have been rollin' doe. Impressed they're doing well even w/o their most-promising arm (Guerra).

Let's return them to earth

Roster moves prior to today's game. Jason Heyward was activated from the disabled list and Dylan Floro was recalled from Iowa. Tommy LaStella and Pierce Johnson were optioned to Iowa to make room on the roster. It appears that Maddon will rotate the 13th pitcher on the roster to ensure there is a rested arm in the BP capable of providing multiple innings. Ian Happ remains on the active roster and in the starting lineup.
