I see interesting points on both sides. I do think the schools should have some way of protecting the time and energy they put into recruiting and developing players. Also, allowing players to just transfer for any reason could negatively impact recruiting strategies and program development. Plus, I really support holding people responsible for the decisions they make. If they made a bad decision they need to learn that life is about accepting the repercussions and making the best of it. On the other side, though, if a coaching change occurs or the school is not honoring commitments it made during the recruitment process, then athletes should be allowed to transfer.
Overall, I don't see an easy answer and agree with the lawyer in the article that said this is probably an issue that will be discussed for the next 10 years.
