Good turn out last night and a nice location for the meeting on the 21st Floor in the Capital City Club downtown, although the speaker system was horrible. Grobe and Wellman were on the panel and they also began with the video presentation of "a day in the life of a WF student athlete."
A previous soccer player from ten years ago spoke briefly as to his experience at Mother So Dear and Wellman joked that he still sees this soccer player every day on campus- in the form of a mural near his office. Wellman also told the story of his car ride to the meeting with Grobe and how excited Grobe was about the upcoming season that the more he talked about it, the faster Grobe drove, until they were doing 95 mph and Wellman had to change the subject.
Grobe appeared to be in good spirits. First off, he made absolutely no mention at all about Josh Harris, only name dropping Campanaro and Orville Reynolds in our return to our "roots" with orbit sweeps. He talked of our prior OL injury woes and that while we are hopeful to have Ford and Chase back, Colin Summers has been lost to a blood clot issue that occurred over the summer innocently enough on a hunting trip.
He told the same story about trying to play to Price's strength this season and the ACC coverage of the Spring Game with us having to change up our scheme so as to not give BC a 6 month head start on scouting us. He also told the story of his recruitment of kicker, Mike Weaver, who like Kinal, had sent in a video only this time it was of him kicking 70 yard field goals off a tee right footed- and then 50 yard field goals left footed!
When he was asked the question about anything that had happened unusual in his career, he told of the time on DeBerry's staff at Air Force and how when they had played Notre Dame with Beurlien as the QB, DeBerry gave the pre-game speech to the team that "he has all the confidence in the world that we CAN'T beat those guys!" Several times Grobe mentioned how excited he is about this team and that they can get after it.
Wellman spoke of the purchase of LJVMC, the ACC grant of rights and the upcoming campaign fund. Again, no mention of Bzz at all.
All of the games in Raleigh will be broadcast on 1030 AM, with the caveat that it is only a daytime station. Supposedly, 105.5 and 105.7 FM are to carry the night games.
