Magnitude 8.7 Earthquake Off the Coast of Sumatra

At 2:38 this morning. Hopefully this one didn't result in a tsunami, and if it did, hopefully people were better prepared.

The key differences between this one and the one in 2004 are:

1. The 2004 quake was more powerful by 0.4 on the logarithmic scale
2. The 2004 quake was 2 miles deeper

Not sure how that would affect whether or not a tsunami is created.

Update: Conflicting reports on the magnitude of the earthquake, Indonesia is reporting 8.9, USGS is reporting 8.7. A tsunami warning was issued.

Got a buddy in Bangkok and his flight to Phuket was canceled. I assume for fears of waves.
