MBB Game 12: ACC Opener - Hokies Visit The Joel - Saturday 2pm - ESPN2

A lot of the pessimism is from an expectation that he would be able to play in the upcoming VaTech game. It is now obvious that's not happening. More disturbing is the lack of a revised timeline. Just "when he is cleared by the medical staff." Most optimistic schedule is now late January. But more likely he doesn't see game action until February.

Given history of past few years, I predict Mekhi Long will suddenly start hitting all of his 3's and get a career high in points.

Wasn't November thrown around as a general timeline back in the summer or am I thinking about something else?

Has this been reported, or just speculation on your part?

How many times have we heard "late December, early January" on broadcasts? It's still December.

I can't recall how his last return was announced. Was he 'ahead of schedule' after the Achilles injury?

Well, "by ACC play/before Christmas" was a common refrain of when he'd be back playing, then there was a setback without much detail, and now it's almost January and he's not even cleared to practice. Forbes mentioned he's not cleared at least in part because the measured time between improvements isn't good enough yet... Really hard to know if that means it's down to the tiniest medical metric left or if the recovery is significantly off schedule. But the pessimism and worry is certainly fair.

And yes, the other eyebrow raiser is how his achilles injury was always "doing great, way ahead of schedule" and those kinds of things prior to his return. Very different atmosphere around this one.

Preview for Wake's first ACC opener at home since 2014. (paywalled, support appreciated)

On Monsanto: He's had one freakishly fast rehab (Achilles) and one slower-than-expected rehab (knee). Ankles and knees are the two rehabs that you're just never sure of the specific timeline and it's crazy that he's had both body parts/rehabs in 2.5 years at Wake.

It is good the ACC opener is home but kinda sucks students are gone. Hope there is a big crowd.

I want a 10-point win*

*in 70 possessions. If it goes 77 possessions, we need an 11point win

Feeling like a 78-67 game. Wake up between 5-9 points for long stretches of the second half. We come out hot and ready to play.
