My 50 favorite albums of 2014

was just feeling a little stale on my pandora. thanks for townie with hooking my spotify for a while.

It'd almost 5 am local, and my insomnia is winning. So I've been jamming out.

Bleachers deserve some love. It's a great album and they were my surprise of ACL.

Biff, did you end up getting to the School of Language album? I sometimes feel like I'm the only one who likes the Field Music guys and their offshoots, but I love them so hard.

I'm digging some Field Music. They kinda remind me of more rocking version of Townie's bois Rice Cultivation Society.

Who do you guys see as the main "influences" for each track of Lost In The Dream?
(If you close your eyes, who do you think is singing?)

Disappearing - Tears for Fears / Miami Vice theme song
Eyes To The Wind - Bob Dylan
The Haunting Idle - Spaceman 3
Burning - Rod Stewart/Bruce Springsteen
Lost In The Dream - Neil Young
In Reverse - Bob Dylan

1. Cloud Nothings - Here and Nowhere Else

12. Joyce Manor - Never Hungover Again
13. Dads - I'll Be the Tornado
14. Late Bloomer - Things Change
15. The Hotelier - Home, Like No Place is There
16. Wye Oak - Shriek
17. Sun Kil Moon - Benji (I'm finally warming up to this one)

pretty solid, I always thought suffering sounded straight out of exile on main st, and get a dire straits vibe from an ocean in between the waves.

Yeah, if you do that you need Dire Straits and Don Henley in there. I think at one point I heard a little Jackson Browne, but I haven't listened in a couple of months.

Any songs I need to check out other than Psychic Trauma and I'm Not Part Of Me?

I need to give this album another chance

It was definitely a grower for me (AND HOW!)

Those are the two best songs, probably, but the record is only 8 tracks long so you should just let it spin through a few times. Put it on in the car and turn it up. The drums are just spectacular and loud as hell. The hooks are not as catchy upon first listen as they were in Attack on Memory, but (for me) they kept me coming back for more anyway. I think the opening riff of Now Hear In is just a perfect way to open the album, and it never slows down or relents...and the closer is just phenomenal. It's also good to put on during a 30-40 minute run, if you're into that sort of thing.

Was kind of behind on 2014 music so I spent the last few weeks playing catchup. Here's what I got as my top 15:

1. Aphex Twin - Syro
2. Run the Jewels - Run the Jewels 2
3. Maceo Plex - Conjure One EP and Conjure Two EP
4. FKA twigs - LP1
5. Robyn & Royksopp - Do It Again EP
6. Ben Frost - A U R O R A
7. Ab Soul - These Days…
8. Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence
9. Todd Terje - It's Album Time
10. Andy Stott - Faith in Strangers
11. SBTRKT - Wonder Where We Land
12. East India Youth - Total Strife Forever
13. Schoolboy Q - Oxymoron
14. Mogwai - Rave Tapes
15. Shabazz Palaces - Lese Majesty

No Lana????

I THOUGHT I KNEW YOU.

LISTEN, BRO. I LIKE VOICES. GOTTA HAVE VOICES. THE CLOSEST I GET TO NO VOICES IS WHEN AN INSTRUMENTAL TRACK COMES UP ON MY NEW BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE ALBUM. AND THOSE TRACKS FUCKIN ROCK, BUT THEYRE BASICALLY SATISFYING ENOUGH THAT I DONT REALLY CARE TO HEAR OTHER ONES

ANYWAY, I HOPE THAT THIS POST HAS ALLOWED US TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER A LITTLE BETTER

La Sera and Mimicking Birds are two I just completely forgot about. I talked up La Sera all year too!

listened to the men for the first time this weekend, they are monte. thanks townie
