Official 2023-24 NBA Season Thread - Cavs/Magic and Clips/Mavs Game 6; Lakers fire Ham

Game 1 hasn't been Doc's problem.

dame jumping off the bench to dap Malik DOES HE WANT TO BE HERE??????

reviews and replays and ref nonsense really sucks the fun out of things at the end of close games

lol OKC challenges a jump ball (refs couldn't tell who knocked it out) and it is changed to Pelicans ball after review. whoops!

If a possession review takes over a minute, just make it a jump ball on that side of the court and move on.

Has anybody posted Jeff Teague's story about Tony Brothers?

Nice to see SGA and Chet get big playoff highlights down the stretch. It was big for OKC to win this one.

Back then they were pushing to the limit from a toughness perspective. Now they are pushing to the limit from a performance perspective. I think the latter makes you more prone to injuries because bodies are moving so much faster.
It's 100% this. It's the same reason why hockey is an objectively more violent and physical sport, yet you see less career ending/changing injuries, like dudes blowing out their knees and rupturing Achilles. The types of movements and the speed at which you need to make them to play in the modern NBA places more stress on the body and makes it way more likely to suffer a debilitating injury.

Some of the players against the 65-game rule said they’re in favor of having a rule but would prefer the threshold be set at a lower number of games.

One player said: “I think that’s a lot of games, honestly, when you think about how the game is played. Back in the day, guys would play 80-some games. They would walk the ball up and post up. But we’re non-stop, and there’s a lot of wear and tear So, guys like Embiid, guys that are superstars in this league, there’s a situation where they might have to fight through games to get to a threshold to get an award. It’s kind of tough, kind of bulls— sometimes. But what if one of those guys, they’re at 60 games, they’ve got a bad knee injury and, in one of those five games, tears his meniscus because he’s trying to get an award? I don’t like that.”

Surprised but happy to see LAC dispatch Dallas so easily. The upcoming Min/Den seres could be epic.

Is Haliburton the best non-Curry PG in the NBA
Yes. And Sabonis is probably the best non-Jokic or Embiid C in the NBA. The rare blockbuster trade that worked.

How is that Haliburton's first triple-double? That's nuts.

I feel like if NBA media had to pick a team to win the IST, they'd have picked Pacers. There was a lot of talk about a young talented team without playoff experience benefitting from the IST. Kings vs. Pacers would be fantastic.

only such a gifted pg would let his team shoot so much

obviously not. probably trying to hit the 65 game threshold and was hoping for the contract bonus that would have come with making an all nba team

it is now the age of player empowerment and they know they are getting support to sit until they are 100 percent healed . 90% is not good enough. That’s a gross oversimplification but it sure feels that way sometimes.

Right. They are also fully set for life at their first contract extension. There is no incentive for them to come back before they are absolutely perfect. Further pussification of the NBA, right up there with 7'2" guys hanging around the perimeter jacking threes and the "space to land" leg kick flopping bullshit.
