Official 2023-24 NBA Season Thread - Game 3 Tripleheader on ESPN at 5:30

Nice. Looks like JC is having a good game with 13 and 8 at the half.

If the Suns end up in the play-in, they can point to losing three games to the lowly Spurs.

Guess I'll post that here unless there's an Olympics thread

Jimmer Fredette, Kareem Maddox, Canyon Barry and Dylan Travis piled up enough wins together last year to get USA Basketball qualified in men’s 3x3 for the Paris Olympics.

They came from wildly different backgrounds: Fredette was an NBA lottery pick, Maddox is a Princeton grad who hosted “All Things Considered” on National Public Radio in Colorado before returning to basketball, Travis retired once from playing and nearly retired from 3x3 as well because it was interfering with his job as a special education teacher, while Barry watched three of his brothers play in the NBA and is the son of Basketball Hall of Famer Rick Barry.

If those bettors can be tied to Porter, his NBA career could be over. Random and huge under bets on him when he takes himself out early because of an eye issue and because he felt ill don't sound so random.

Prop bets on bench players seem ripe for corruption anyway especially players who may not even get in the game.

It has been clear for years that many refs are on the take. Especially for "who cares" games featuring teams like the Hornets. And that is even after Donaughy shone a spotlight on how easy it is and how much legal gambling has taken over. It makes sense that end-of-bench players could be bought easily as well, especially for prop bets that really don't affect the overall outcome.

NBA players can't "be bought easily". The reason why this was caught after two games is that betting anomalies are immediately exposed. Dumb decision by Porter. He is expendable, and his career in the NBA is likely over. Every NBA player knows, or should know, that when the betting handle (the total amount wagered) on a player prop spikes, red flags will fly and investigation will ensue.

A group of guys in Ohio got caught for an unusual betting pattern in an Alabama/LSU baseball game. Fixing games does not work for the player/coach involved or the bettors involved.

Also, "many refs" aren't on the take. The Hornets just suck. The reffs have jobs which they love, and are easily replaceable. If a ref is fixing games, they are done, and may go to jail like Donaughy.

The sports books are in this to make money on fair games; the odds are slanted in their favor. If the games are fixed, they lose. So, they have vested interest in ferreting out any odd betting patterns (e.g., games that consistently go over with a certain ref; or enhanced action on Jontay Porter props; or a group of big bets against Alabama baseball in Ohio). These fixing scams never work out well for those involved, and those involved are the ones that are too stupid to understand the measures in place to catch fixing.

What happens to the people who placed bets on Porter?

The ones that placed the big bets on him will be contacted by the authorities. It won't take much convincing for those that bet to start singing if they are offered immunity, which is standard for the bettor.

They also may have had their bets frozen if the betting pattern was spotted before the end of the second game. All of this is so easy to trace now with legalized action.

Damn. Reaves was one point away from a 30-point triple double.

I mean both Draymond and Wiggins have 3 more years left on their deal. If you're Steph you gotta bounce from that shit.

LaRavia with 25 pts, 6 boards, 4 assists, and 7/9 from 3 in a loss to the Lakers last night. Awesome to see him taking his chances recently

GSW getting blown up this offseason? And will Steph want to be part of a rebuild? I thought he'd retire a Warrior, but not so sure now.

Lamelo officially out for the rest of the season. Played in 22 games this year. 36 last year. His brother hasn't played in an NBA game in over 2 years. I want to like Lamelo, I really do. But at this point in his career, he is soft and unreliable and has zero percent dog in him.
