Official Russian Election Interference Thread

But if he's charged in NY State, the President can't pardon him.

Oooopps.

And another boom tonight.

"The Russian lobbyist who attended a meeting with top Trump campaign aides last year has testified to a grand jury as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election meddling, the Financial Times reports. The lobbyist, Rinat Akhmetshin, was part of a meeting that included Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner, in addition to a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya. The president’s son took the meeting after being informed that the Russian individuals had dirt on Hillary Clinton. “I don’t know what you’re talking about... I’m not commenting on anything,” Akhmetshin told the FT."

The Lawfare Podcast, Special Edition: The State of Things Today

Over the past 24 hours, the Financial Times reported that Russian lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin has testified before Robert Mueller's grand jury. Politico carried the news that the Mueller team is cooperating with the New York Attorney General to investigate Paul Manafort. And the Wall Street Journal broke still a different story: that the President's lawyers have provided memos to the Special Counsel arguing that the president cannot commit obstruction of justice and questioning Jim Comey's credibility. In the midst of this blizzard of news, Shane Harris and Paul Rosenzweig joined me and Susan Hennessey to discuss the recent developments.

For those who are wondering what to make of the state of things today, here's our best effort to bring you up to speed.
