Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

So this Arizona Republican paid teenagers to set up fake social media accounts to fool people into thinking they were real adult conservative posters, and these teens worked to help overturn the 2020 election results and support GOP covid policies. And they apparently got bonuses if enough people started to believe their posts.

This Queen Creek Republican burst into public view in 2020, when he ran an internet troll farm, paying teens to post conservative talking points and baseless conspiracy theories on social media — all aimed at getting then-President Donald Trump reelected.

The Washington Post in September 2020 exposed Hoffman’s Rally Forge, a digital marketing firm working with hard right Turning Point USA.

His job was to pay teenagers, some of them minors, to set up fake personas and blanket social media with thousands of nearly identical posts aimed at undermining confidence in the validity of the election and downplaying the impact of COVID-19.

In other words, Hoffman wanted to fool you into thinking these were real people spontaneously expressing deeply held conservative beliefs instead of what they were — a group of kids being paid to deceive you, reportedly scoring bonuses, to boot, if they could create enough buzz around their posts."

The New Hampshire legislature was debating a bill that would raise the legal marriage age in the state from 16 to 18. NH GOP State Rep Jess Edwards drew gasps when he argued in favor of continuing to allow child marriage. Edwards stated that "If we continually restrict the freedom of marriage as a legitimate social option, when we do this to people who are a ripe, fertile age and may have a pregnancy and a baby involved, are we not, in fact, making abortion a much more desirable alternative, when marriage might be the right solution for some freedom-loving couples?” So he was basically arguing that child marriage is a legitimate alternative to abortion. For a party that frequently accuses Democrats of being pedophiles and groomers, they certainly seem to love things like child marriage.

Fortunately the NH legislature passed the bill raising the marriage age over Edwards objections.

I have never understood why Dems don’t make child marriage a national issue to put Republicans on defense.
 
She suggested killing someone else's dog, too.
WASHINGTON — Kristi Noem suggested Sunday that President Joe Biden's dog Commander should meet a similar fate as her 14-month-old dog Cricket, whom the South Dakota governor reportedly described shooting and killing in her coming book.

"Joe Biden’s dog has attacked 24 Secret Service people. So how many people is enough people to be attacked and dangerously hurt before you make a decision on a dog and what to do with it?" Noem, who is considered a potential running mate for former President Donald Trump, said in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation."


Commander, a German shepherd, was relocated from the White House last year after a series of biting incidents.

According to CBS News, Noem's memoir, set to be released this week, also includes a reference to Commander. In the book, Noem says that if she were to make it to the White House, she would first ensure that Biden's dog was not on the premises. "Commander, say hello to Cricket," she imagines herself saying, according to CBS News.

Noem has set her career on fire this week. Even republicans who have the lowest possible standards are looking at her with side eye.

Agreed. At least she can find some comfort and solace from this PR disaster in the arms of Corey Lewandowski the next time she shacks up with him at CPAC.
