Worst Hipster Bands of All Time:

http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/2012/08/worst_hipster_bands_all_time_c.php

Kinda Funny. My Fav:

4. Bright Eyes
Conor Oberst has been straining to open an impossibly sealed mason jar for about 14 years now. At least, that what his singing sounds like. Between his impish whine and depressing lyrics, it's a wonder he has any fans who aren't yet suicide victims. Since he basically robbed fellow Nebraskan Simon Joyner of his sound, he's even unoriginally terrible. Oberst once hilariously told an interviewer that he was influenced by a Cure record he bought in 3rd grade -- perhaps the worst "I was into them before you were" hipsterism possible. Presumably he was really into Leonard Cohen as a zygote, too. -Paul T. Bradley

Cheers.

Can someone explain the differences between the music festivals to me. SXSW, ACL, Bonaroo, Choachella, Lollapalooza, etc. What am I missing? I want to start going to some of these b/c I think they'd be fun, but what are some of the relevant differences?

That show was sick!!!!!

The first set from Funky Bitch on was just outrageous.

Saw a bunch of songs I have always wanted to catch. Alumni Blues, Suzy Greenberg, BFFCFM
Fluffhead>Alumni Blues looks like the best part on paper. Do you have your stub? If so and you aren't going to use it could you PM your download code?

They all generally offer something different, but the lineups at Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Lolla are all going to be pretty similar. The biggest difference is going to be location. Bonnaroo's in TN and is pretty much exclusively campsites, which means you're going to be spending four days outside in hundred degree heat with a badillion of your closest friends in close quarters. I did it, and it's fun, but it might not be for everyone. Lolla's in Chicago, and it's more of a hotel type thing. I don't believe there's any on-site camping (though I could be wrong). Right now, these two are the biggest music festivals on the scene.

Coachella is a little different than these two. It spans two different weekends, and it's in California. I think there's on-site camping, as well as accommodation options, so it's a little more flexible. On the other hand, while the combined lineup is usually more impressive than either Bonnaroo or Coachella, the fact that it's split over two weekends means that you might not get to see all the bands on the ticket that you actually want to see. I'm dying to go to Coachella one year... It has had some stupidly impressive performances in its history (see: Kanye's show there a year or two ago).

SXSW is another beast entirely. I don't know all that much about it, admittedly, but the lineup tends to be way more indie (but also way more extensive than any other festival). This is the festival to go to if you want up and coming bands that could be "up and coming" in indie circles a year from now.

I know almost nothing about ACL, so I'll let someone else handle that one.

I downloaded it. I can email you the mp3 files if you want them.

ACL and Lolla are very similar. Run by same group. High overlap with lineups. Chicago vs. Austin...both are awesome cities in entirely different ways.

One of my best friends went to Bonaroo a couple years ago and it sounded absolutely miserable.

I think El Chupe should tell us about Burning Man. From the pics available on the internets, it sort of looks like a cross between Key West and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

From the pictures my high school friend has posted, I think that is about right.

W00T got free tickets to see MMJ 2 weeks from now through work, i heard they are MONTE

I know a few people on this thread like Ryan Bingham -- new album coming out Sept 18 (not sure how I feel about what I've heard but I don't think it'll be bad by any means). Thought I'd throw out that all preorders are going to be signed by him, just in case anyone was interested.
